Virginia is one of the most historically rich and diverse states, and as a result of this it is an excellent place to pursue study of the discipline of history. If you are interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in History, then you should definitely consider applying to one of these excellent Virginia schools.

Old Dominion University
The history program at Old Dominion University is very rigorous in its training of those who enroll. Students are required to study American, European, and one non-Western branch of history, as well as the methodologies associated with the discipline of history. As part of their senior experience, students take a capstone course that involves substantial primary research and the use of various theoretical models. If you enroll in this History B.A. Program, you will be required to complete 36 hours of coursework, which is designed to prepare students for a variety of careers and courses of study.

James Madison University
The history major at James Madison University is the ideal blend of broad scope and personal choice, providing students with the ability to broaden their studies while also focusing on areas of their own interest. The program requires 40 total hours of coursework, with a blend of both lower level and upper level courses. James Madison also provides students the opportunity to choose from several concentrations, including Business and History and Public History.

George Mason University
Students that choose to study at George Mason University will study with faculty representing a wide range of interests and specialities, ranging from the social to the political and from the United States to all portions of the world. The history major at George Mason is also incredibly opening and welcome of interdisciplinary work and encourages students to pursue any one of the many minors available, ranging from African American Studies to Women's Studies. The major requires 36 hours of coursework, of which 18 hours must be comprised of upper level courses.

Although it is commonly belittled by some, a Bachelor of Arts in History can be a very useful and lucrative degree to obtain. The skills gained from such a degree prepare you to both pursue graduate study and to pursue careers in such professional fields as law, business, and even politics. Just as importantly, a degree in this area can be a very enjoyable thing to pursue, allowing you to experience the world as it was lived by those in past eras.
