A year's paid subscription only costs twenty-four dollars, and you get more than just six bi-monthly issues of History Channel Magazine. You also get a year's membership to the History Channel club. As a club member, not only do you get discounts on great History Channel Merchandise, but you also have the opportunity to win cool prizes. In each colorful issue you receive entry cards for historical vacations to places such as Washington D.C. as well as items such as coin sets and historical artifact replicas. Sometimes you even receive small gifts in the mail. I've already received a book on U.S. historical sights, a magnet with the Bill of Rights listed on it, a ribbon bookmarker, a magnetic bookmarker, and a keychain. I get excited every time I see a History Channel envelope in my mailbox.
Each issue starts with "This-Day in History." They offer eight to twelve captions of interesting events that happened in years past. The magazine then features four or five articles about any number of topics. Recent issues have included articles about such topics as historic one-room school houses, the Pony-Express, the Roosevelts, and World War One fighter pilots.
Another wonderful feature of the magazine is that it allows subscribers to be a part of it. Members are invited to write about their remembrances of historical events, famous relatives and places from history. It is always heartening to read about events from the perspective of someone who actually experienced them. You get a closer feeling than you do from a typical journalist's point of view. There is even an editorial section where readers can report responses to past articles. They can report errors or provide extra tidbits of knowledge on the subject.
Each issue also displays an odd photograph. Subscribers can send in funny captions that might fit with it. In the next issue the History Channel Magazine will tell you what the picture was really taken of.
The History Channel Magazine is very educational and at the same time entertaining. As soon as I receive each issue, I voraciously read it, and then I eagerly await my next issue's arrival. I really enjoy my History Channel subscription and club membership, and I think you would too. If you are interested, go to www.historychannel.com for a trial membership.
