History of Jewelry

Michael Felix
Jewelry was created for thousands of years. In the past having jewelry was for a rare few. Kings,
emperors, queens and other dignitaries have worn jewelry as a sign of nobility and power that they have
had over regular mortals. It was very common that those dignitaries have had jewelry created for them by a
personal jewelry maker. Almost all of their jewelry of course was custom made and ,depending on a part
of the world and culture that they have lived in, was made of the finest materials that they could get.Gold,
silver and many various precious gemstones have been used to create jewelry for them.

All cultures and all civilizations have produced their own style of jewelry. Jewelry designs were very often
sacred to the society that they have lived in. Jewelry designs were very unique and were inspired by their
kings, emperors or queens and most importantly by their gods. In the past most of the gold jewelry was
made of a high karat gold. Also jewelry designs were often very large and bulky. Precious gemstones were
a very common decoration to a gold jewelry and usually were very large. Both men and women have had
gemstones on their jewelry. Also our ancestors thought that gemstones have had various secret meanings
and could protect their owner from evil, bad luck and even death.

Fortunately fascination with jewelry have not stayed in the past and was passed on to us. We, people
living in a twenty first century, are sometimes as much fascinated with jewelry as our ancestors hundreds
or thousands of years ago were. Of course now days you do not have to be a king or a queen to have
jewelry, but rather anyone who just wants to have some sort of shiny decoration. Gold and silver are still
very popular in our culture and are used as the base material for a jewelry. Of course now days not all
jewelry is made of a very high karat gold but more commonly of a ten karat or fourteen karat gold. Various
shiny precious gemstones are a very well in demand too. Gemstones like sapphire, diamond, ruby or
topaz are very popular and can be seen on various jewelry decorations. Even in a twenty first century a lot
of the people believe that gemstones have various secret powers that could protect us from evil, bad luck,
death or any other misfortune. As you can see that's exactly how our ancestors thought about
gemstones. Also some of the modern jewelry is inspired by religion. You can find a lot of the various
religious items and icons, made of gold or silver, for sale in jewelry stores.

Also there are some people that buy gold jewelry as an investment. In parts of the world like East Asia and
Middle East people have invested in gold jewelry for a very long time. Of course that's a very unique way of
investing but with gold prices going up that might be after all a smart way to make money. Now days whether you want to have a bracelet, chain, ring, necklace or an earring you can purchase it almost anywhere from a local
jewelry store to an online jewelry store located in the other part of the world. It is a fact that jewelry in a twenty
first century is sold almost anywhere you look at. Maybe our love for jewelry is in our DNA and was passed on to
us from our ancestors. Nobody really knows why so many people like jewelry, however in my opinion people's
fascination with gold, silver, gemstone or any other kind of jewelry will not go away and probably will be growing
since a lot of us still like shiny decorations.
