History is like A...

History, like many things, has many parts, sections, and pieces to it. It's a very complex process of time. History cannot be completed in one day, it takes many, many generations just to be considered history. History is like the process of building a house. This process to, has many parts, sections, and pieces to it, which can all be compared to history in some way, shape, or form.

When you are beginning to build a house, you start with the basics. You first grab a shovel and start digging a hole into the fresh, rich soil which will be the location of the basement, where the foundation will soon be laid. This is similar to history. In early civilization, primarily in Mesopotamia, the Mesopotamians dug their shovels deep into the rich agricultural land to create the world's first irrigation system. This was one of the building blocks that they created for the rest of history's societies. These irrigation systems provided vital water to much depended on crops, such as barley. If it wasn't for these systems, history would have been quite different from what it has become today.

Next in the process of building a house is the laying of the metal bars, which will be where the foundation of the house is laid. This relates to one particular part of history. The part it relates to, is Babylon's 282 laws. Now the relation may not be obvious at first, but it is quite basic. The Mold for the foundation of the house is quite essential to the construction of the entire house. The same goes for the laying of the law. The law is the foundation of all civilization. Without these 282 laws, people could do as they please without consequences. These laws prevented that, and kept the ancient society working properly.

Now that you have the basic foundational mold laid out, it's time to pour the cement and create the basic foundation of your house, which the rest of your house will be built on, and will be relied upon. This is similar to ancient civilization, in that we took much our of culture from these ancient civilizations. These civilizations had kings and nobles as their leaders, and they were dependent upon them. In later years in history, this form of government was still depended upon for the survival of an empire. Also, in ancient civilization the same family often ruled for hundreds of years. This is similar to a house's foundation, as this foundation may be relied on for many generations, as the house withstands the elements.

Okay, so now the basic foundation of the house is up. Now it is time to form the main floor of the house, and to put up the basis of the walls for the house. This part of the process, is similar to the Roman Empire's part in history. In the Roman Empire, the advancement of man happened quite quickly. Mankind now had a means of transporting water, via the aqueducts, and it was also starting to come together in one big picture. New art forms were being developed, man was forming together, and great things were occurring at an accelerated pace. Mankind was advancing quickly, it had a few downfalls every now and then, such as the Punic Wars or the 100 years war, but overall things were going great. This is similar to the basic construction of the floor plan in a house, as when building nothing ever turns out quite like it was expected to, due to unnoticed errors in the houses design. But soon things take a turn for the worse.

The Middle Ages relate to a horrible part in the construction of the house. You have all the levels laid out, all the walls have their basic parts to them. Then something similar to a plague hits the construction of the house. The walls aren't square, making it hard for the roof to be properly placed on, now you have to go back and fix many aspects of the construction of the house to make things work, all just so that you can get the roof to properly fit the house. This is similar to the Middle Ages for a few reasons. The Middle Ages were definitely an embarrassment to mankind. All kinds of things occurred that tarnished our image. All of a sudden the plague was wiping out one third of the living in all of Europe. Everyone is at war with one another, and there are many people that are trying to save the day for everyone. This is just like the construction workers of a house, who all try to be the hero to fix the problem on their construction site so that they can successfully finish their house. It's a long time before all the kinks are worked out in the construction of the house, just like it's a long time before the people of Europe get out of the government style of Feudalism, where there are many Kings and Queens, and plenty of war and death. But soon enough, enough of the problems have been fixed, and finally the roof is up and shingled. The people of the world are now out of the Dark Ages, and everyone is now able to safely continue on with what ever it is that they had planned on doing with their lives.

Next in the process of building a house is putting in all the drywall, windows, doors, electrical wires, plumbing heating, etc. This is when things really start to advance in the house, and everything starts to come together for good. This relates to the Renaissance. During the time of the Renaissance, things were heavily being changed in the world to better suit the needs of people. Martin Luther was forming his own style of Christianity, which was great for the people, the first press was made, the Gutenberg press which brought together many, many people, and informed them of all the upcoming events, and told them about what was going on in their average daily lives. Individualism was becoming a big part of everyday life. This is similar to the construction of a house, because at this point in time, all the specialty workers are coming in to do their special, specific job, which they are specially educated in.

The only thing left now in the building process of a house, is the touch ups, which I believe Modern Day is. History has already nearly perfected itself throughout its many, many years. Now Modern Day is just creating items and objects to further perfect the lifestyles of people. New technology is being created to make life easier for mankind, which is great. Overall the process has been essentially completed.

This analogy relates to time and change in obvious ways. It takes time to complete the building of a house, and without the process of change, the house would not even exist, as you would be unable to change the land. It relates to causality in a less obvious way, in that it wasn't a coincidence that things happened this way. Each step is taken for a reason, and nothing happens just because. And fourthly, culture relates in a less obvious, almost metaphoric way. The house has to be of a style from a specific culture. That culture was created through the process of time.

So as you can see, everything interrelates when you relate the process of building a house, to the process and being of history. Everything relates, although it may not be directly obvious. History has it's flaws, but thats only because mankind created it. The building of a house also has it's flaws, but that is also because mankind created it. Mankind is not perfect, which is why our past civilizations have had their own unique downfalls and shortcomings, along with their rises to flame and glory.
