The Royal Oak Music Theatre has been in operation for the last 82 years, first opening its doors in 1928. The theatre was opened by an entrepreneur named John H. Kunsky. He was a businessman in Detroit and opened the first movie house in Detroit in 1911, one of 20 he would eventually own. The theatre pretty much operated under the same business plan until 1978, when live music and comedy were added to the theatre's offerings. In 2004, Worldwide Entertainment, L.L.C. bought the theatre, ending 76 years of private ownership.

Over the years, some pretty big names have played at the venue, which holds a maximum of 1700 people. Lady Gaga, Prince, Robin Williams, and The White Stripes are just a few of the well-known acts to be on stage.
