Gleeks rejoice! The Fox hit TV show, "Glee", has been renewed for a third season. The award-winning 'dramedy' that plays out much like a glee club's musical theater number, is headlined by Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch and Lea Michele and must be perceived as something completely different by the masses because it's ratings have been unusually strong in it's freshman year.

The show, created by Ryan Murphy (of Nip/Tuck fame), chronicles the lives of students and teachers at an Ohio high school and unabashedly plays to stereotypes across the entire student body. In the beginning of the first season, the resident jock, Finn (played by Cory Monteith) and his posse of football players are at odds with a burgeoning "Glee Club", which begins with only a few members before being joined by a cast of characters that might be least expected.

The viewership for "Glee" is off the charts: an average 13.3 million viewers this spring, with a strong foothold with the 18-49 year old crowd. This may be mostly due to the show's unique concept, but may also be due to the outstanding guest stars so far: Neil Patrick Harris, Olivia Newton-John, and Kristin Chenoweth as well as the music that has been sampled: whole episodes featuring Madonna and Lady Gaga and the music of a multitude of others.

Glee has already won several awards including the Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy and received nominations for Best Actress (Lea Michele), Best Actor (Matthew Morrison) and Best Supporting Actress (Jane Lynch). It also won a Peabody Award and a People's Choice Award for Favorite New TV Comedy.

In addition to nearly immediate stardom, the cast of Glee have been featured in many magazines and have even performed at the White House. Their concert series began recently and will run in four cities this summer and iTunes sales of music from the show has been very well received. In an interesting twist, the creators of Glee opened auditions for three new characters to the general public. The two new male characters and one new female character will reportedly make their debut in season two of the hit TV show.

The last episode of Glee's first season will be Tuesday, June 8th, and the second season will kick off on Tuesdays at 8pm on Fox in the fall.
