Hitchin Post Cafe in Molalla, Oregon, Puts a Smile on Your Face

My mother-in-law wanted to treat my husband and I to breakfast when we went to visit her recently in Molalla Oregon. She told us of this restaurant that has become her favorite eatery in town. We decided to dine there with her and give it a try. The name of the restaurant is The Hitchin Post Cafe.

It's located right off Main Street so it can't be missed. It sits right in the center of town where one can see locals wandering up and down the sidewalks window shopping and going about their every daily tasks. Once inside the door I immediately was in amazement, I found the decor to be quite homey and down to Earth.

We seated ourselves at a long bench like table where two older gentlemen sat. You will see that there will be allot of locals here as well as visitors. As we looked over our menu's one of the gentlemen looked at us and recommended we have a omelet. They have the best fresh eggs in town the man stated ,I sold them to the restaurant he stated proudly.

We ordered the omelet's packed with bacon, sausage, and ham and cheddar cheese. These meals came with fried hash browns as well as choice of biscuits or toast. When our plate arrived at the table we first noticed the huge amount we received. Then the waitress brought over the home made jelly for our toast and I looked at my husband and he was smiling. We both love home made jams and jellies.

Your immediate attention might be drawn to the dishes in this restaurant. They do not match. You may have a Christmas coffee cup and your other family member one with a grandchild's picture on it. This example of a small town touch reminds me of my home back in the South.

With this restaurant, you will get the feeling you are visiting with relatives for breakfast and not eating out. You will also notice the locals walking around chatting with everyone including the newcomers. They are the welcome wagon and they'll let you know what's good on the menu, which is everything.

The food is absolutely fabulous and prepare to get a to go box. The portions are so large that everyone needs a to go box. For the price of 7.00 dollars you can't beat the deal. You actually are getting two meals out of the plate.

The hash browns were delicious as well, they were fried to a light golden brown and not over cooked. I had their sour dough toast and Marion berry jam. If you are dining alone, don't worry they have a small bar counter where you can grab a stool and order up.

I will definitely go back and eat here again and again each time we go for a visit. From the decor to the friendly staff and customers that made us feel like family. The food is so good and the portions are very large. You get your money's worth dining here.
