I have been waiting for this feature to be added in to the game for some time now and I am certain I am not the only one. Prior to this option being added, you either had to use the item or sell it. If you had no use for the item and decided to sell the item, you often found that you would be giving up the item, as selling the item got you nothing. I for one thought that was an extremely dumb idea, especially for extra building items.
The Gift That Keeps Giving
Sharing items in your inventory has been a feature for some time now in Zynga's Frontierville, which is a much newer game then FarmVille. I do not completely understand the logic behind this feature taking so long to incorporate into FarmVille, nor do I care to understand it. I am just glad it is there. I see a few personal issues with the whole re-gifting process.
Post Your Re-gifts to the Wall
Unfortunately, as with sharing other items in FarmVille, you cannot decide who gets the gift you wish to share. Clicking re-gift will present you with the option to choose how many of the gift you wish to share, up to what you have available. An announcement regarding your sharing will be posted to your wall. Your friends will be able to then claim the gift you are re-sharing.
Not All Gifts Are Able To Be Re-gifted
I am assuming that something has changed with the gifting processing. Gifts sent after this feature became available appear to be able to be re-gifted. Gifts from before the feature was added cannot be re-gifted. If you have items you have no use for you have several options. If you can put them in the game and then store them, that is one option. If they are building supplies, hold on to them or get rid of them. In general, I would suggest using them or getting rid of them if you have no re-gift option and keep your gift box clutter free.
Features I Would Like Added
While I don't mind in general posting my re-gifts to the wall for my friends to grab, perhaps I would like to share a certain gift with a particular friend. This option is not available but I am hoping the developers over at Zynga are getting lots of requests for adding this feature. I for one am hoping this feature is added at least an option.
Conclusion
I love the feature in general and welcome its appearance in FarmVille. I believe the developers are working hard to roll out new features and this one has been one a long time coming. However, being able to send to a specific friend would be a much added feature to the re-gifting process, even if you have to choose it prior to sending out gifts.
Be a good friend and share those items you have sitting around in your gift box you either have no need for or simply do not want. Remember, the gift box is not unlimited. Watch your wall for friends sharing gifts as well and hopefully you are able to grab them up.
