Hobbies help to make us interesting people. They promote creativeness, skill, a social time, and they give us something to talk about.
Retirement is a time when hobbies really will sustain you. Suddenly the grind of the typical 9-5 is gone and you realize that everyday will allow you to enjoy lifelong hobbies.
Maybe you always wanted to take fly-tying lessons or a rug-making course when you had more time.
Having hobbies allows you to interact with other folks who have the same interests. This interaction will in some ways replace the interaction you once had with your co-workers. Thus, it fills a void as well.
Lots of preplanning could be done before your retirement. Classes could be set up for those new hobbies you want to learn. Computer research can allow you to find out further about your particular interest.
In retirement , you could also do family things such as taking your grandson fishing. This would be a perfect time to tell him old family stories. This will be doing something you enjoy and at the same time, you will be making a memory.
The one big red flag we want to alert you to is, don't make your job your hobby. Once its gone, you will have tons of time on your hands with nothing to do. Too many folks make this very mistake and when the job is no longer there, they are literally lost.
Don't take for granted the very act of fostering your creative side. It may even take you awhile to get into the mode of having fun. Once you get into the habit of having a new routine, you will be so at ease with your new way of life. Work takes up most of our life, so allow yourself to enjoy this time, you have earned it.
