Hobbies: Weird and Gross Collections

It's True, Somewhere in the World - a Man Collects His Own Belly Button Lint - and You Thought Your Bottle Cap Collection was Weird

Jenne Joy
Have you ever thought about starting a collection as a hobby? Are you afraid of collecting something that others may consider to be 'weird,' boring, or just plain gross? Chances are, there is someone out there with a weirder, more disgusting, or insanely boring collection that is worse than yours. Here are a few strange, funny, and downright gross collections that people have started, all across the globe. Enjoy, and revel in the fact that you aren't as weird as you thought you were.

'Naval Fluff'

This guy considers his 'naval fluff' to be a priceless commodity. That's right: there's a guy out there with jars of his own belly button lint. Now is a great time to go back to your coin collection. Trust me on this.

Used Napkins

While it's true that several people collect clean, unused napkins, there are also those who collect used napkins. Now, it's one thing to collect cool napkins with fancy designs from various places in the world - but if you're collected used napkins (even worse, napkins you didn't use yourself) then you're entering a whole new world of gross. If you're wondering why no one visits you anymore, it may be that used napkin collection you have hanging on your wall. Get rid of it.

Medical Antiques

While there are legitimate reasons to collect medical antiques, it can only be taken so far. Sure, some people are fascinated by the advances we've made in medical science; however it's not healthy if you're collecting things like amputation devices, leech jars or other blood letting devices, or bone screws. I bet that bottle cap collection is lookin' pretty good right about now.

Used Lottery Tickets or Used Scratch-Off Tickets

Some people have a shoebox full of losing lottery tickets or losing scratch-off tickets. I don't recommend anyone collect anything that makes them feel like a loser. It's just a bad idea, why would anyone do it?

Toothpaste

It may not sound very gross, but it certainly is strange. A Saginaw, Michigan dentist collects toothpaste and even runs a website called Toothpaste World. Check out, it's somewhat interesting; however I don't recommend collecting toothpaste. It's just weird.

Barbed Wire

Sadly enough, somewhere in the United States (Kansas) is a museum dedicated entirely to barbed wire. It's true, there are even many who follow the practice and collect barbed wire. Who knew there were so many different techniques and styles of barbed wire! More importantly, who cares?

So fear not, future collector! Chances are, your collection isn't nearly as boring, gross, or weird as any of these!

Hey, what's so weird about barbed wire? It's history and besides it's no stranger than the ball of twine in another Kansas town. Hee Hee!! Loved this article, great subject.
