Hobby Lobby Discontinues Selling Fabriano Brand Paper

Today was a sad day for avid artists who frequent shopping at Hobby Lobby. Those of us who are fans of FABRIANO's Tiziano pastel paper will no longer be able to purchase it from this wonderful retailer. Hobby Lobby has completely discontinued selling any paper supplies made by FABRIANO.

The last set of pastel paper on their shelves is the multi shades of yellow paper. This paper has a nice texture to it, which is great for working with pastels. Any person who likes a good illustration in pastels would like to see an array of varied pictures on any of these shades.

These 4-corner "STRAP-PACKs" are cut clean on each side so that there is not any of that rough edge appearance. Selling at a discounted rate of $5.99 for a pack of 24 sheets, this is a steal for 40% cotton paper. This Tiziano line is 9 1/2" x 13" and is acid free. It is also a 75lb (160gsm) grade of paper with a tooth grain surface.

This pastel paper is not just for pastel, but also meant for pencils, charcoal, ink and is great for paper crafters. The six shades of yellow are enough to whet one's appetite for pastel work. It is also enough to practice with until the image is done the way one wants it to be.

Many may not know this, but the FABRIANO paper has been made in Fabriano, Italy since 1264. It is a shame that those of us who frequent shopping at Hobby Lobby will have to resort to going elsewhere to buy this paper from now on.

This same paper can also be used for acrylics, gouache, bookbinding, and printing techniques such as silkscreen lithography and airbrush.

I have tried finding more about this paper online to only find that there are many places you can order this paper from. Yet, one would think you could buy this directly from the manufacturer.

Have you ever come across a leather bound sketch book that had the paper stitched together as if it were a reading book? If you have, then you know how good is the paper. This is the Fabriano paper that is so well known all around Europe.

Yes, it will be interesting to see how Hobby Lobby manages without the selling of this quality paper. Then again, maybe I was the only one buying this paper.

Who knows, maybe Michael's or other retail hobby or art stores still carry this paper. It sure would interesting to find out. This paper does come in many sizes, but the size you will be able to purchase will depend on where you go to buy it from. Not all retailers carry the same size of this paper.
