Let Mangia Hoboken! Guide You Through Historic Food Places

Sabrina Ricci
Who doesn't love a good food tour? With Mangia Hoboken! you can witness behind-the-scenes activity for some of the most popular and historic food places in Hoboken, NJ.

For $40, you will be placed in a small group tour of no more than 16 people, and be able to see and enjoy famous places in Hoboken for three hours. Tours are scheduled every Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., and participants meet at the Hoboken PATH station entrance at the corner of River Street and Hudson Place. Make sure to wear good shoes, since the tour requires approximately one mile of walking.

In addition to sampling foods, participants will be able to frequently stop and take photos, and there is a chance to meet a cast member from the TV show, Cake Boss.

Tour Itinerary

The tour makes the following eight stops: Carlo's City Hall Bakery, Antique Bakery, Fiore's House of Quality, Lisa's, Grimaldi's Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria, Empire Coffee & Tea Co., Lepore's Chocolate, and The Cheese Store.

Carlo's City Hall Bakery

Hoboken may be home to the Cake Boss, but Carlo's Bakery has been around for almost one hundred years. All pastries are hand-made, and currently the bakery makes around 60 specialty cakes and 350 birthday and event cakes per week. There is a chance to see a cast member from the show, including Buddy Valastro, but there is always at least a two-block line in front of the store to see the cakes, so chances are slim.

Antique Bakery

This bakery has been using the same oven since 1938. The owner Ivan bakes approximately 2500 loaves a day, every day of the week.

Fiore's House of Quality

Fiore's opened in 1913 and is best known for it's "Roast Beef & Mozz" sandwich. The owner, John, and his son make 160 pounds of mozzarella each day.

Lisa's

The owner, Anthony Lisa founded his store in 1946 in Italy, and he now lives above his Hoboken location. It specializes in Italian delicacies.

Grimaldi's Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria

Like the name suggests, this pizzeria uses a coal brick-oven, which the owner built and designed.

Empire Coffee & Tea Co.

Another store that has been around for almost 100 years, the owners of Empire Coffee & Tea roast their own coffee beans.

Lepore's Chocolate

Of course there is a chocolate store in the food tour. The owner, Mario Lepore, makes his own chocolate by hand, and during holidays he produces 5,000 pounds of chocolate daily.

The Cheese Store

One of the more heavily advertised stores in Hoboken, The Cheese Store is best known for its array of Italian cheeses.
