It seems as though in order to find any high quality, great tasting seafood or Chinese food in the Pittsburgh area, you have to fight your way through downtown traffic or travel into Robinson Township for a good variety, but not now! Hokkaido Seafood Buffet is a sight for sore eyes to the Homestead area.
Upon entering the restaurant, you are surprisingly welcomed by a beautiful setting. The warm colors and greenery set the mood for an inviting meal as you are welcomed by the host staff with a warm smile behind a large cherry wood counter. As you are being guided to your seat, you're overwhelmed by hundreds of different aromas permeating from your left as you pass the buffet.
The seating arrangements are almost maze like as large barriers separate the seating from the buffet area. The booths and tables are a dark wood with high backs and heavy chairs. The seating area begins in the middle of the restaurant and pans right, leaving the buffet to consume the entire left and back area of the walls.
To the far back wall you find your salads, complete with a variety of the common to not so common selections such as octopus salad and seafood salad, just to name a few. There is a very limited selection of actual salad items, like lettuce and fruit. Right next to the salad, you will see shrimp, mussels, and oysters on ice. The shrimp salad was okay, the fruit was fresh, and however I did not venture to try the shrimp on ice... I'm not too fond of peeling shrimp and plucking off legs.
As you travel to your left down the Hokkaido Seafood Buffet line, you soon meet up with the large variety of coconut chicken, coconut shrimp, Korean chicken, curry chicken, lobster, crab, duck, beef, pork, and dumplings. Many of these choices give you a second choice of it being fried or baked, especially when you reach the main seafood section where you see varieties of squid and fish dishes. Everything is specifically labeled, so it helps you find your way through the familiar and unfamiliar dishes.
Everything was cooked thoroughly, had a lot of flavor, and kept me going back for more! Even if you are not a seafood or Chinese food fan, the buffet did hold some simple and kid friendly foods, such as pizza.
The dessert bar area of the buffet is very simple with not much to choose from. There was ice cream, small vanilla cakes, and cherry glazed bananas. Nothing fancy, it seems as thought Hokkaido Seafood Buffet concentrates more on their main dishes than their sides, salads, and desserts.
In conclusion, paying the $9 per person for lunch or the $16 per person for dinner, this buffet is definitely worth every penny! I highly recommend Hokkaido Seafood Buffet to anyone who is looking for something good with a variety, without having to fight the Pittsburgh traffic to get to it!

Post a Commentthis is perhaps the best oriental restaurant in Pittsburgh area. It is often crowding and noisy. Yet, it is good noise.
Will have to check this out if I am in the area.
