Holey Donuts: Can a Low Fat, Low Calories Doughnut Really Exist?
A Review of the Seemingly Miraculous Diet-Friendly Donuts
Holey Donuts are mail order donuts that are significantly lower in fat and calories than normal donuts. They have become the biggest new diet craze, and understandably so, when you realize that they have only 3 grams of fat per donut. In comparison, a Krispy Kreme doughnut can have 20 grams of fat. I was intrigued by the idea, and slightly incredulous that a donut with so little fat could actually taste good. Holey Donuts generously sent me some of their assortments to try out, and I am happy to report that I am now a convert.
Are Holey Donuts Healthy?
Holey Donuts makes it clear that their products are not health food. The Donuts are made with white flour and sugar, and were never meant to be a diet food. But these donuts are still significantly better for you than most donuts, and most other tasty treats. With only 148 calories in a donut, dieters can still have an occasional treat without feeling guilty.
How Do Holey Donuts Taste?
Holey Donuts taste like delicious, full fat donuts. I was skeptical before trying them, but after carefully sampling several varieties, I was unable to detect any trace of diet in their taste. The texture is just a tiny bit different from normal doughnuts, but that may be because they arrive frozen. Overall, I was highly impressed. The cinnamon buns were just as tasty as any cinnamon bun I have ever tried, but contained less than half of the normal fat and calories. The donut holes were my favorite because they are perfect bite sized snacks filled with cream or jelly fillings for under 100 calories. I can say for sure that I will be making future orders with them.
Buying Holey Donuts
Holey Donuts is a company that is still growing, so hopefully buying their donuts will become easier as the company expands. At the moment, the only place to get Holey Donuts is at their website, www.holeydonuts.net. The donuts are fairly expensive, and for customers who do not live close to Brooklyn, the shipping prices will be very high. If you need help convincing yourself that the price is worth it, just remind yourself that a triple bypass would be infinitely more expensive. For me, the price is worth it because I can enjoy a delicious, decadent treat without feeling guilty that I am running my diet.
