Thanksgiving and Christmas Events

If you and your family are looking for something a little different for the upcoming holidays, here are some ideas if you are in the Georgia area for the holidays.

Amicalola Falls State Park is famous for its many walking trails, beautiful waterfalls and scenic mountain views. Located in Dawson County, Georgia, this is truly a timeless treasure for all ages to enjoy. The holidays are no exception when it comes to family fun:

An Appalachian Thanksgiving will be held on Thursday, November 26, 2009. The traditional Thanksgiving buffet begins at 11:00 AM and along with plenty of great food, there will also be Appalachian cultural demonstrations at the Lodge. It is a full day of great food, fellowship and fun for the entire family.

A Christmas Open House will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 beginning at 4:00 PM. You can relax and enjoy a variety of musical presentations, some gorgeous gingerbread house creations and then a winter treat, a Christmas hayride. Afterwards you can warm yourself by the fire as the little ones visit with Santa.

Amicalola Falls and State Park is located at 418 Amicalola Falls State Park Road in Dawsonville, Georgia. The Lodge has 56 guest rooms available by reservation. You can reserve a room by calling 1-800-573-9656 or by going to their website online:

Another small town located north of Atlanta, Georgia is Dahlonega. The historic Dahlonega Gold Museum will host some very unique and special holiday events:

Every Saturday (both holidays and non-holidays) you can experience first hand a real Appalachian jam session. Mountain music, pickin' and grinnin' will be held on the grounds of the Dahlonega Gold Museum. You can enjoy good country music accompanied by a wide range of stringed musical instruments. You are guaranteed to have some old time fun in Dahlonega!
For more information call: (706) 864-3513.

On Sunday, December 6, 2009, you can participate in Dahlonega's historic old fashioned Christmas. This event includes free museum admission along with fresh cider and cookies. A fun-filled event for the entire family. For more information on these events at Dahlonega Gold Museum, call (706) 864-2257.
