Nebraska Cornhuskers Play Washington Huskies in Rematch of Early Season Blowout

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will face the Washington Huskies in San Diego December 30th in a rematch of an early season blowout win by Nebraska. The two met in Washington in September and the Nebraska Cornhuskers won 56-21. The game was the worst of Jake Locker's career. He threw two interceptions and passed for only 71 yards.

Taylor Martinez dominated his first road game for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He threw for 150 yards and one touchdown and also rushed for 137 yards and three more touchdowns. The speedy Martinez broke out for a huge touchdown run of 80 yards and the Nebraska Cornhuskers never looked back.

Nebraska Cornhuskers Defense vs Washington Huskies Offense

The Nebraska Cornhuskers defense is weak against the run but they are solid against the pass. They are holding opposing passers to 159 yards per game through the air. Run defense is the Nebraska Cornhuskers weakness. They are giving up 135 yards per game on the ground and they will face a strong ground game by the Washington Huskies.

Jake Locker and this Washington Huskies defense has been a work in progress this season under Steve Sarkisian. They are rushing for an average of 164 yards per game behind Chris Polk who is coming off a career game against Washington State. Polk rushed for 284 yards against the Cougars.

Locker's favorite target is Jermaine Kearse this season. Kearse has four one hundred yard plus games including two over 170 yards. Kearse is a superior route runner and has the speed to get behind good cornerbacks on the edges. The Nebraska Cornhuskers defense has the edge over the Washington Huskies offense.

Washington Huskies Defense vs Nebraska Cornhuskers Offense

Defense is not the best aspect of this Washington Huskies defense. They are very weak against the run this season. The Washington Huskies are giving up an average of 200 yards on the ground this season. When these two teams met in September they gave up 533 total yards, 383 yards of that total were on the ground.
Pass defense is solid for the Washington Huskies. They are yielding 202 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks.

Taylor Martinez has missed two games this season but when he has played in this Nebraska Cornhuskers offense he has been electric. Martinez best game this season came against the Washington Huskies defense. He is coming off the most disappointing loss of his young career to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Championship Game.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers offense is averaging 261 yards per game on the ground with the help of Martinez and Roy Helu Jr. The passing game for the Nebraska Cornhuskers is their weakness. They lack consistency going for the big pass and Martinez is easily flushed out of the pocket under pressure. The Nebraska Cornhuskers offense has the edge over the Washington Huskies defense.

Washington Huskies vs Nebraska Cornhuskers -13: Pick Against the Spread & Breakdown

The Las Vegas Hilton Superbook has set the line on the Holiday Bowl with the Nebraska Cornhuskers as a 13 point favorite over the Washington Huskies. The Washington Huskies are 3-2-1 against the spread away from home and 5-6-1 against the spread overall.
