Cover the space you will be creating your holiday design at with old newspaper sheets and/or a large sized drop cloth. Remove the lid from the apothecary jar. Wash both the lid and the jar with mild dish detergent. Rinse both well with warm water. Dry the lid and the jar with paper towels. Set the glass lid safely aside. Turn the jar upside down on the work area for a few hours to dry fully.

Lay a piece of white cotton fabric on the ironing board. Gently press the fabric with a medium to medium-low iron. Cool completely. Use a ruler and a fabric marking pen to create four strips that are one inch wide by as long as it takes to wrap horizontally around the apothecary jar. Cut out these strips using decorative edge scissors.

Cut eight strips of one inch wide red satin ribbon the same length as the cotton fabric pieces. Place the cotton fabric pieces face down. Spray the back of the fabric with Krylon Spray Adhesive. Adhere one red satin ribbon piece horizontally on the back of the cotton piece, leaving half of the cotton piece uncovered. Cover the exposed are with a second piece of red ribbon. Once dry, flip the ribbon pieces over to reveal a bit of red poking out from behind the top and bottom of the cotton piece.

Heat up the hot glue gun. Apply a thick coat of hot glue to the back of one ribbon and cotton stripe piece. Adhere the piece horizontally to the side of the apothecary jar and smooth with your fingers. Repeat this step for the remaining fabric and ribbon pieces, leaving a gap between each. Once all glues have cooled, enjoy your new red and white peppermint striped apothecary jar.

TIP: This also looks great when green satin ribbon is used in place of red satin ribbon!
