For this project, you will need:
- One unfinished wooden plaque board in any size (available at craft supply shops)
- Wooden star cutouts in multiple sizes (available at craft supply shops)
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or other style soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Silver Foil
- Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Gold Foil
- Epoxy glue
- Metal hooks
- Hardware and tools to install metal hooks
- Hanging hardware
- Newsprint and/or a large drop cloth
Cover the space you will be creating your stocking hanger at with sheets of old newsprint and/or a large sized drop cloth. Carefully sand the unfinished wooden plaque with sheets of medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe away any dust on the wood with a tack cloth or other style soft cloth.
Prime the wooden plaque using a thick coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the primed wood dry for a few hours before proceeding. Paint the wooden plaque using seven to eight coats of Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Silver Foil. Keep adding additional coats of paint until you have reached a desired metallic base for the stocking holder. Dry completely.
Sand each of the wooden star shapes with medium or fine grit sandpaper. Just as previously done, wipe away any dust on the wooden star cutouts with a tack cloth or other style soft cloth. Prime both sides of each star shape using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Once the primer has dried, paint each of the stars using Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Gold Foil. Let the gold stars dry fully before proceeding. Adhere the stars to the painted wooden plaque with a bit of epoxy glue. Allow the glue to cure completely.
Prime each of the metal hooks using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Use one hook per stocking you wish to hang. Decide whether to paint the hooks using Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Silver Foil or Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Gold Foil. Once this is done, let the metal pieces dry completely. Use hardware and tools to install the hooks evenly on the board. Attach hanging hardware to the back and hang on the wall.
TIP: The wider variety in sizes for the star cutouts you use, the more dramatic the finished project looks.
