For this project, you will need (per vase):
- One clear glass cylinder vase
- Mild dish soap
- Water
- Paper towels
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a coordinating color
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Wrapping paper
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Sponge brush
- Mod Podge or other decoupage medium
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Cover the space you will be completing this holiday vase in with newspaper sheets and/or a pretty large sized drop cloth. Carefully wash a clear glass cylinder vase with mild dish soap. Rinse the glass vase well. Dry the outside of the vase using paper towels. Leave the vase upside down to dry for a couple hours before continuing on.
Prime the bottom and the outside of the glass vase with a light but even coating of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the vase set to dry for a couple hours before proceeding. Paint the entire outside of the vase using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a coordinating color of your choice. Use a couple good, thick coats of paint. Dry overnight or until the paint is no longer tacky.
Lay out the wrapping paper design side down on a self healing mat. Use a ruler and a pencil to create a rectangle shape that is big enough to wrap around the painted cylinder vase. Carefully use a craft knife to cut out the rectangle shape from the rest of the wrapping paper piece. (Using a craft knife versus scissors will give you a sharper edge on the paper.)
Apply a fair amount of Mod Podge or other decoupage medium to the back of the wrapping paper piece with a sponge brush. Adhere the wrapping paper around the vase. Smooth the paper with your fingers and apply a second, lighter coat of glue to the outside. Wipe away any excess glue using a damp paper towel. Dry completely.
Spray the entire outside of the vase with Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray. Dry overnight before inserting flowers, candles, candies, or anything else you wish.
TIP: The more whimsical the print on the wrapping paper you use, the more whimsical your finished vase project will be!
