Holiday Decorations Ideas: From Easy to Outrageous

Holiday lights and decorations are hitting the show room floors right now for the Christmas season. Most families decorate for the holidays, some more elaborately than others. There are neighborhoods where Christmas lights are more of a battle for bragging rights than tradition. Whether you are looking to be top lighting dog or just tastefully decorated here are a few suggestions.

If you live in a neighborhood where everyone is into mega Holiday lighting displays, air blown decorations can give you a quick and easy competitive edge. These newer models use fans to inflate light nylon figures with the lights and in some cases sound systems pre-installed. The older inflatables make easy targets for neighborhood rapscallions and are just so 2005. Walmart, Home Depot and other large stores are loaded with the new air filled holiday scenes. To be tricky, try on-line shopping to find something less common. Buyinflatables.com and eBay have a large variety of air blown inflatables.

If you compare what is available at the local stores and on-line you can set up an original lawn or roof display. Many of the displays are animated which guarantees your pets will freak out. Be prepared for a little repair if your Doberman is overly protective.

There is a huge selection of Christmas lights from which to choose. Multi-function chasing, fading color sequenced, you name it. If you are a bit of a geek, revel in your geekdom and build your own PC controlled Holiday light controller. Computerchristmas.com has plans for a light controller. After looking at the schematic, you might want to opt for a starter-kit like the four hundred dollar 16 channel light-o-rama controller. If you view lauderdalechristmas.com's video of last Christmas on youtube you might just want to stick a menorah in your window and call it quits. While you are there, check out the Rocky Horror Halloween display.

Here in the Keys we tend to hang white Christmas lights on the palm trees and hang a Christmas cast net on the boat with lures for decoration. The cast net Christmas tree is simple and elegant holiday decoration. White lights are the perfect Keys choice since they may be hanging through June. A trimmed rosemary bush makes the perfect Christmas tree replacement if you do not have a cast net.

However you decorate for the holidays, do check out some of the more elaborate on YouTube.
