Holiday Decorations from Nature

You can find everything that you need to decorate your home for the holidays on a good old fashioned walk in the woods. The best part of decorating with things found in nature is that you will get to spend time withe family or friends while you are looking for your holiday decorations and you will save a bunch of money in the process.

When taking your nature walk, be sure to pack a pair of scissors or small shears and take along a bag big enough that you will be able to haul your loot from nature back home easily. One of the easiest things to find is a great selection of pine cones. Not only are they plentiful , they can be used for many different things. Pine cones can be scented or left plain and used to accessorize your holiday decorations in several different ways. You can use the pine cones in a basket to add some holiday cheer or frost them with some artificial snow to decorate your tree or bow of garland. If you would like to feed the birds, you can cover the pine cones with peanut butter and sprinkle on some bird seed and have an instant treat for the birds.

The next thing to be on the lookout for is holly. Holly branches can be used to embellish a grapevine wreath to add some holiday cheer or to a traditional Christmas wreath that adorns your door. The holly leaves can also be removed from the branch and used to decorate a Styrofoam ball for a hanging decoration. This is a great way to decorate your entry way with holiday decorations from nature.

Some other things that you should be on the lookout for on your nature walk is acorns or other nuts that have fallen from a tree. A piece of thread or decorative ribbon can quickly be added to an acorn to make a quick Christmas tree ornament. If you are feeling a bit more creative, you could add a felt hat and a funny face to your acorn as well. Fallen feathers are also a great find as they can be added to your tree either as they are or after you have given them a light dusting of fine glitter. This is easy to do with a spray glue and the end results are fabulous.

As you are on your search for holiday decorations from nature, let your imagination guide you as you stroll through the woods. The possibilities are endless and the end results are sure to please both your eyes and your pocketbook.
