I was in three different Dillard's stores this weekend, and the assortment of styles and colors they have available is amazing. Although not yet on sale, I found Evan-Picone to have some of the most body flattering and sophisticated styles. Evan-Picone dresses are priced reasonably - between $79 and $129 for each dress. Most of the Evan-Picone dresses that caught my attention we short, A-line cut dresses that had a Barbie-doll appeal. There was a cream colored dress that came to the knee which had a sheer overlay. The top came in (halter) with a beautiful neckline that flattered. Evan-Picone also had many little black dresses that would not only be great for the holidays, but for year round usage. Again, most were to the knee and A-Line type cuts. One in particular that I liked was a simple black dress that had sheer which was opened in the middle. It was very trendy, yet had the charm about it which could be dressed up with pearls for a special occasion. Evan-Picone also had several red dresses for the holidays - perfect to the business casual event at the office, or perhaps to a Christmas Eve service at church. I ended up buying a red dress that had three ruffles (which started at the waist and went to the knee). The neckline was a higher neckline in front, and the back has the most beautiful scoop neck, which hangs right above the bra-line. The dress will look perfect with your hair either down or up.
Dillard's also has available many long formal dresses for a special occasion - perhaps for the more dressy party or cocktail affair. Many of the dresses that were more seasonal in appearance had a spaghetti type strap and lower cut back. There was also an abundance of petti-coat like skirts that were between the knee and ankles. One in particular was a red top with some darker burgundy integrated into it. The skirt was calf length and had a petti-coat incorporated into it. The majority of colors I saw available were cream, black, red, green and dark blue. Many of the had sparkles, or jewels of some kind lining the top.
Many of you will go in search of separates, that is, tops and pants or skirts. Many of the skirts I found available at Dillard's were the ruffled black skirts. They were pairing these with very dressy tops of all color. Shells seem to big, and this year they are being worn with shawls and bolero jackets. There was an abundance of the bolero style jacket in stock at all the stores I visited. I did not see a huge amount of black slacks - more I saw skirts of all lengths. The predominant colors of the skirts were black and red, mainly black.
There were also many tunic style dresses. They had every type of collar imaginable - from square to scoop, V-neck to high neck cut. Many of the tunics had vivid, bold patterns in the material, and most all of them had a A-Line cut that came either to or just above the knee. One dress that was of this style was made by OC ~ OC. The dress was a silver velvet dress with beautiful rhinestones (large) lining the collar and the bottom of the sleeves. the sleeves had a slight bell cut to them, as many other dresses did.
While you are out shopping this season for the perfect dress to wear to all the events you are attending, keep two things in mind. First, try on all different cuts and styles to find out what most flatters your body. Stick with simple, basic elegance that will give you a sophisticated appeal. Second, be mindful about which dresses could be re-worn at other times in the year. Would that red dress look fabulous at Valentine's Day? Or perhaps in the summer around the 4th of July? Good luck and happy shopping!
