Holiday During Recession May Restore the Seasons' True Meaning

Andy Dubyckyj
Tis the season for whatever holiday that one celebrates for Black Fridays, crowded malls, and commericals touting every product that the market can think of.

Because of the economic situation it is uncertain if how much stuff will be bought. While we wait and see if the holiday season will boost the economy; perhaps one winner is the meaning of the holiday season itself. Regardless if we observe the Christmas Season, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Boxing Day, or a time off from everyday life; in the end the holiday season means spending time with ones family and friends, well wishes with our neighbors, and the idiolstic hopes of peace.

During this trying year of historic moments and economic uncertainty it seems that we not buy that Lexus, or that Wii game. But perhaps the greatest gift this year is having a job if you have one, or if you are still those on the job hunt the people in your life who provide that extra laugh if you need, or smile, or comforting hope and wisdom.

Our new President wrote a memoir titled "The Audacity of Hope;" and it is that audacity of hope that surrounds the seasons; not from polticians, but from good friends, family, and people in our lives, and from giving back to those who are struggling by taking our time with service.

In the end it is these gifts that truly make even the toughest of times "merry and bright."

While we fish tale the powder of white.
