The Island of Kauai, also known as Hawaii's Garden Isle, is the perfect place to spend this holiday season. Here are the top holiday events on the Island of Kauai.

The premier holiday event on the Island of Kauai is the annual Festival of Lights and Parade. This year's event will commence on December 1st at six p.m. with a performance by the Kauai Chorale, followed by a lighting ceremony at the Historic County Building, featuring none other than Santa Claus himself. The building itself will be filled with holiday cheer, including elaborate Christmas decorations, lighted murals hanging from a second-story balcony and various other holiday displays. Afterwards, spectators will enjoy a parade of dazzling floats traveling along Rice Street. The event will also include caroling and local entertainment. You will be able to visit the Historic County Building from six p.m. to eight p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights right through New Year's Day. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making appearances during those hours. Call (808) 828-0014 for further details.

At dusk on December 23rd, the town of Waimea holds an annual Christmas Parade, in which fire engines escort a parade of fabulous floats through town. You may call (808) 335-2824 for updates and more information.

If Christmas shopping is the highlight of your holiday season, you are in luck on the Island of Kauai. You will have plenty of outstanding shopping opportunities. The Waimea Craft Fair is held each Thursday through Saturday throughout the holiday season at the old Waimea Sugar Mill on Kaumualii Highway. Here you will find terrific homemade arts and crafts, great food and spectacular entertainment. Call (808) 335-0663 for more details.

The Kauai Museum also hosts a major fair, this year on December 1st and 2nd. Kauai artists will present their crafts for display and sale, and you can enjoy Hawaiian music, hula, food and a wreath exhibit. Located on Rice Street in Lihue, the fair at the Kauai Museum will remain open until eight p.m. on December 1st as part of the aforementioned Festival of Lights.

How will you spend New Year's Eve on the Island of Kauai? How about with an aerial fireworks display scheduled to commence at ten p.m. on December 31st at Poipu Beach Park? Poipu Beach fronts the Marriott Waiohai, Kiahuna Plantation, and Sheraton Kauai Resorts, and you are guaranteed an amazing view all along the coastline.

Happy Holidays and Mele Kalikimaka to all!
