If you plan on being in Wheeling, West Virginia for the 2006 holiday season, there are plenty of events and celebrations scheduled this year. You don't need to look very far for something to get your in the spirit of the holidays. Tree lighting events, Christmas parades, holiday music and festivities for the entire family can be found. Many events are free and some charge an admittance fee, but there will be something for everyone, both young and old. Just get ready to go out and enjoy the beauty of the season in Wheeling, West Virginia this year.

On November 1st through December 31st, the AEP City of Lights event will take place. It includes many spectacular lighted displays, snowflake ornaments, and lighted trees throughout all of downtown Wheeling and the nearby city neighborhoods. You can enjoy the magic of the season while you gaze at the twinkling lights on the decorated trees or browse the shops and stores downtown as you look for that perfect gift this year. The Fantasy In Lights Parade is scheduled to take place on November 17th this year. The holiday season kicks off with this annual Christmas parade that includes floats, music and santa himself. Bring the whole family and get in the holiday spirit with the rest of the crowd during this Christmas parade in Wheeling.

On November 28th, The Santa Express will come breezing into town. Experience magical quarter day adventures for holiday believers of all ages featuring Santa and his troup of jugglers, magicians, clowns and elves. December 1st will bring the First Night Celebration. This holiday event includes the lighting of the town Christmas tree, a brass ensemble playing festive seasonal songs, a children's choir, Santa Claus, hot chocolate and much, much more. The Graham House Olde-fashioned Christmas Dinner and Yule Log Ceremony will be held on December 3rd through the 4t. Activities scheduled include heritage music and stories around an open fire. For more information please call (304)466-3321.

Spirit of Christmas in the Mountains holiday entertainment takes place on December 4the and 5th. Christmas at Fort New Salem is a celebration of the historic and cultural folkways of the Scotch-Irish and German settlers in West Virginia. Christmas on the Island will be celebrated on December 9th through the 11th. You can turn back time and enjoy a recreated 18th century-style holiday celebration in the Mansion on Blennerhassett Island. Relive a Christmas of long ago. For more information please call (304)420-4800.

The annual Christmas Bird Count will take place on December 18th 2006. This event is similar to the National Audubon Christmas Bird Count. Park staff and members of the Bibbee Nature Club will spend the day searching the Pipestem area for wintering birds. December 24the through the 31st is the Christmas Week Celebration. There will be a

On December 31st, the Multi-Fest New Year's Eve Celebration will take place. You can
