Holiday Family Craft - How to Make an Edible Candy Wreath

April Horton
An edible candy wreath is a nice decoration for the holiday's. Better yet, you can make mini versions of this wreath for gift giving! Nothing is as homey and quaint as this yummy tasting wreath. You can hang it on the wall and enjoy it at the same time. This is a nice and easy craft to get the kid's involved in! They will marvel at the finished masterpiece and be proud of their contribution.

It is also nice enough for adults to make and give for gifts as well. It can even be catered to diabetics with sugar free candies if needed!

You can make this wreath one of two ways. You can use a coat hanger or you can use a hot glue gun and a Styrofoam wreath form,. You can find wreath forms inmost craft supply stores. As for peppermints the red and white disc variety will do. Or get creative and use cinnamon candies or butterscotch. You can really use just abut any candy that is wrapped in a wrapper and still be tied with a ribbon. During the holiday's most varieties of candies came in holiday colors which also helps coordinate with different holidays such as Christmas, Easter, etc. You can also use mini chocolate bars or most kinds of candies that are packaged and that you can tie a ribbon to! Get creative and experiment!

The supplies you will need for this project are;

clothes hanger or wreath form

hot glue and gun (only needed if using the wreath form)

scissors

mini scissors

curling ribbon

candy (1 super large bag of peppermints makes 2 wreaths)

If you are using a coat hanger you will need to bend it into a circle. You can also do heart shaped one if you want to make a wreath for Valentine's Day!

Next comes the most tedious part and that is tying the ribbons to the candy. Trust me you will be tired of this quickly if you don't have help enlisted. But the good news is it is easy and mindless and can be done watching TV or listening to music.

You will want to cut your ribbon about 3-4" in length. Be sure to leave enough on the ends so you can curl the ribbon with scissors on the ends. Really, it's not a science though so you can do this part however you like basically.

Next, you will either tie your ribbons to the clothes hanger or glue them to the Styrofoam wreath form. I like to use a hanger myself but have done this project using the wreath forms as well with good results. Most notable a ball or topiary shape. They come out quite neat looking. You can also fill in any spaces with ribbon on either the hanger or Styrofoam. If you are using the wreath form for this project be sure to attach a loop somewhere on your wreath for hanging.

Once you get the wreath full you can then tie a pair of small scissors to some curling ribbon and attach it to the wreath. The scissors are the finishing touch and will invite your family and friends to help themselves! This wreath won't last long though so you might want to make an extra!

This holiday wreath is attractive yet consumable which is always a good thing when considering it for a gift. Especially those that are hard to buy for like Grandparent's and teachers. This project is very low cost too and easy to make. It can be completed in under 2 hours. Most of the wreath's I have made like this have cost around $10 to make and the supplies are easy to acquire.
