Holiday Fashion Ideas: Little Bright Dresses

Lori Jill Shirley
For this year's holiday season, stand out like a Christmas light by wearing an LBD: Little Bright Dress. A Little Bright Dress is the sister to the Little Black Dress, a classic style dress only in a bright hue such as red, blue, yellow and so on. Here is a style guide on how to wear and accessorize LBDs.

Hot Holiday Hues

Forget that fashion myth that you can only be colorful in the spring and summertime. Bold and bright colors are definitely what this fall and winter season is all about. Thumb through any current fashion magazine, and you will see a variety of fetching colors on every model and actress. Some of this season's hottest colors are bright red, purple, coral, electric blue, canary yellow, and winter green.

Classic Cuts

When picking out a Little Bright Dress, find one that comes in a classic style or cut. Clingy sheaths, baby dolls, and a-line style dresses are great choices. Depending on how long or short your dress is, you will probably want to consider wearing tights. Solid colored tights are very hot this season, and ones that come in an opaque black work best with an LBD. For shoes, cute high heeled booties or strappy stacked heels look cute and very trendy. Since it's the holiday season, you can usually find really cute boots and heels in festive fabrics such as velvet or satin, and embellished with glitter and rhinestones!

Finishing Touches

A few great accessory pieces to wear with an LBD are a large statement belt and a cardigan or blazer in solid black. I always love the contrast of basic black with a bright color, as it gives off a balanced look. For jewelry, I always like to find pieces that have the same colors as my dress. For instance, if I was wearing an electric blue LBD with a black cardigan, I would wear big hoop earrings with those colors and a necklace and bracelet to match. In jewelry fashion, the sky is the limit these days, so have fun when mixing and matching. For a final touch, add a cute feather fascinator in your hair and a glittery clutch bag in gold or silver. This is a great party look, and will definitely make all the heads in the room stare in your direction!

Tip: Make sure you add in a neutral color such as black or brown when putting together and LBD. If you dress in a head to toe hue, i.e. red dress, red tights, red shoes, red jewelry, etc. you will look silly instead of stylish. Its always best to balance out the brightness with a little black, grey, beige, or brown thrown into the mix.
