Holiday Fashion Ideas: Sparkly Acessories for Holiday Parties

At a loss on how to dress up for all those upcoming holiday parties? Sparkly fashion accessories such as scarves, belts, hair combs, and jewelry will dress up just about any outfit in seconds flat. Here is a fashionista's guide to everything sparkly, glittery, and shimmery in the way of accessories for this holiday season.

Scarves

One of my favorite things about cold weather is the chance to start wearing scarves again! Scarves are a wonderful way to add a stylish, colorful touch to any simple outfit and many retailers carry scarves for special occasions around this time of year. Shimmery scarves in festive colors such as red, gold, green, or silver look elegant and classy with a simple black or white top, and scarves embellished with sequins or rhinestones look really great with a solid colored tank top. Here is a fun fashion tip: wear a sequined red scarf with a sold white top to create a festive 'candy cane' look!

Shoes and Belts

A really cute and fun way to dress up an over sized dress or tunic is to wear a large statement belt in a shimmery color such as gold, with a pair of sparkly ballet flats in the same color. I wore this look once to an office party at holiday time and it was a huge hit. This is a very quick and easy way to add holiday glitz to any simple cotton dress. Elegant high heels embellished with chunky rhinestones are also a fantastic way to dress up an outfit, and these look great with a pair of skinny jeans and a fitted blazer.

Purses and Clutches

When you are headed to a party, you will most certainly want to carry your necessities in a beautiful, festive purse or clutch. Try to find one in gold or silver, as these are extremely versatile colors that will go with anything. I also like to find a evening bag to match the color of the shoes I am wearing, as this creates a very polished look. Most major department stores carry all sorts of evening purse styles, with my favorite being Express for Women and Sam Moon (women lucky enough to live in Texas know all about Sam Moon; it's a large store that specializes in unique and trendy accessories for very reasonable prices. In other words, its Heaven on Earth!)

Hosiery

Stockings and tights are making a big comeback this year, and Macy's now carries tights and hose with rhinestones up the backs creating the effect of seams. Stockings in my opinion are the best way to really dress up, and I always wear them with my dresses, especially in the wintertime. Find a pretty fitted dress in a bright holiday color such as red, wear a black lace cami underneath, and add a pair of sparkly black stockings with a pair of velvety stacked heels. This creates a very trendy, yet classic look at the same time.

Jewelry and Hair combs

Details are always critical when putting together a holiday party outfit, and sparkly jewels add the perfect finishing touch. Chandelier earrings are always a favorite of mine, as are sparkly Art Deco inspired bangle cuffs. These are very hot this season, and can be found at any store that sells fashion accessories such as Claire's. When wearing sparkly jewelry, make sure you follow the 'less is more' rule. If you decide on big chandelier earrings, make sure your other pieces are more subdued. Also, another great jewelry piece to really dress up an outfit is a large 'statement necklace'. These are very popular in fashion right now, and look best when worn with very low cut dresses and tops. Hairpins and fascinators made of feathers and rhinestones are going to be everywhere this season, and they add the perfect final touch to a party ensemble.
