The holidays are an exciting time in Charleston, SC. The weather is mild, the Holiday market and downtown area bustle with activity, the wonderful scents and lights of Christmas are in the air, and there are lots of fun and tasty food and wine events. Here are some of the upcoming holiday food and wine events in the Charleston area.

The Woodlands Inn offers a Christmas Lunch and Tours on December 1, 8, 15, and 22nd 2007. There will be a 3 course meal and then tours of the Inn decorated in its holiday finest will follow. The price begins at $39. On December 11 and 18th the Inn will offer "Wines of the World- Champagne and Sparkling Wine Gala." You can taste 12 different effervescent wines beginning at 6:30, to be followed at 7:30 by a 4 course pairing dinner. The price is $99. On December 25th Woodlands has a Christmas Day Dinner and Dessert Buffet beginning at 12pm. The cost for adults is $74 and for children $25. If you're expecting family and friends for the holidays but find you need some culinary inspiration, check out the Brunch for the Holidays class at Charleston Cooks! on Saturday, November 24th at 10am. Learn how to cook a potato and bacon Napoleon, creamy eggs in ham pouches, cherry scones with lemon glaze, and other scrumptious brunch dishes.

Everyone loves cake- especially during the holiday season. Learn how to make Southern Holiday Cakes in this class on Thursday, November 29th at 6:30pm.

Everyone loves a good cocktail party, so for fresh inspiration, Cajun style, attend Cocktails and Hors d'Oeuvres, New Orleans Style on Friday, November 30th, at 5:30pm. The class is taught by Lally Brennan and Ti Adelaide Martin of the Commander's Palace Restaurant in New Orleans.

Charleston Cooks! is also offering several classes on gingerbread houses during December, for children and adults. You'll learn how to construct and decorate using gingerbread as your forum.

If you crave a sparkling wine tasting that is more affordable than the one at the Woodlands, then try the Sparkling Wine tasting at Charleston Cooks. The class will pair light appetizers with a variety of sparkling wines for $40 per person on Friday, December 7th at 6:30pm.

Cookie baking, giving and receiving is a treasured holiday tradition. Check out the Cookie Swap at Charleston Cooks on Thursday, December 13th at 6:30pm. You'll learn new recipes and get to take home your own box of cookies.

Kid's Gifts from the Kitchen on Sat. December 15th at 10am is for children ages 8-16. They'll learn how to make homemade gifts of food and love to give to family, friends and teachers. There will also be an Adult Gifts from the Kitchen class on Thursday, December 20th at 6:30pm.

Have you always wondered what the traditional Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes was about? Well learn all about it at this class on Tuesday, December 18th at 6:30pm. You'll learn how to make delicious seafood dishes and some sweet endings.

A fun class to help get rid of those post-Christmas blues is the Fondue Party on Friday, December 28th at 6:30pm. You'll learn all about fondue and get to eat it too!
