Moscow's Ballet is putting on a performance of the Great Russian Nutcracker sooner than you know it. On November 14th, you can see this marvelous production at the Henderson Pavilion. Tickets range from $25-45, which is superbly affordable, and you can get into the holiday spirit before you've maxed out your credit cards. Ballets are a great way to introduce your children (probably more specifically "girls") to a cultured and cultural event. The story of the Nutcracker is a timeless classic and is beautifully done by this Ballet company from Moscow. For those of you that love live musical performances, the Henderson Symphony Orchestra is for you. There will also be some local high school choirs presenting some beloved classics. This is an annual event at the Valley View Recreation Center and is a wonderful "break" from the routine with your family. This event will only be staged on December 5th this year. The WinterFest at the Henderson Events Plaza is a great place to take your kids on December 8th (Friday), from 5pm to 9pm. This citywide festival includes a number of fun activities to involve you and your kids. The official tree lighting ceremony is the most notable event, with 'oooohs' and 'aaaaahs' for adults and children alike. Other activities include visits from "Santa" and ice-skating. Entertainment is provided with music and more. And as it isn't a school night, you can stay till the end and enjoy every minute of the Henderson city WinterFest for no fee.

You can likely derive the event by the name, but the Jingle Bell Family Fun Run is a cute affair to register for. You will need to register by November 30th and it is for all ages. The run will take place from 9 to 10:30 am on Saturday the 2nd of December. It is free of charge, but you are encouraged to bring a gift for "Toys for Tots." Toys for Tots is a well-known charity organization and this is a great time to make your donations to the cause. The toy can be anything for a boy or girl; and as much as you want to wrap them pretty in some Christmas wrapping paper, they would like their donations unwrapped. So what is the run all about? Every contestant will receive some jingle bells to place on their shoes and then trek for three miles either running or walking, starting and finishing the course at the Silver Springs Recreation Center (SSRC). The 'sounds' from these jingle bells will be quite laughable if not sensible. So, bring your kiddies and strap on some jingle bells and have a great time.

The Whitney Ranch Recreation Center is holding a citywide event called "Sitting with Santa." Taking place on December 16th, the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center wants you to 'visit' Santa and his workshop for a Saturday morning. It is targeted for children 1-12 years of age mainly, but it will be amusing for parents as well. "Elves" will be at workstations to help you create your own holiday craft projects. Santa will be available for pictures (a picture with your child's shining face in it will be $2 each). You must register by December 10th to be a part of this unique view into Santa's workshop. Admission is $5 per person, which is very reasonable for a place to let your kids be entertained while you do some Christmas shopping.

And if you love holiday crafts, don't miss the Holiday Craft Fair. On Saturday, November 18th from 9am to 4pm you can enjoy some handmade crafts at the Black Mountain Recreation Center. There will be no food items, so just plan on perusing the unique fineries as the main attraction. If you have your own handmade holiday crafts to add, it is a little too late to register for a booth (registration ended October 7th, so be on top of it next year); but don't worry you'll have a great time anyway. It is happening sooner than you think, so keep it on your to-do list this season.
