Holiday Gift Guide for Six to Seven Year Old Girls

Holiday Gift Guide

Heather Shockney
Christmas is just around the corner and before you know it, it will be time to start buying gifts .If you are wondering what to buy this year for your six to seven year old girl let me offer a few suggestions.

Every year there are the hottest toys that all the parents will be pulling their hair out trying to find. You have got to ask yourself are they really going to play with this after the fuss is over and they have gotten it? Or will it sit in their room and collect dust? Kids are easily persuaded by all the commercials and marketing the toy companies do to get you to buy their newest product. I would stick to buying gifts you know they will use more then one time. Here are some ideas for your shopping list.

1.Arts and crafts items, you can buy all types of things for your six to seven year old girl to do. You can find everything from making jewelry boxes to a birdhouse, how about some of her own scrapbook supplies. You can find all types of craft kits at your favorite store such as Wal-Mart, k-mart, Michaels, or wherever you buy your crafting materials. Another suggestions would be crayons, paints, colored pencils, different types of paper, etc. Kids love to draw and make their own projects. You might be thinking that crayons and pencils would not make a kid happy on Christmas morning, and while it isn't something for their main gift they could be used to fill their stockings.

2.Dress up supplies, all little girls love to play dress up. You can find all types of costumes and play jewelry .You could get a big rubber maid container and fill it full of costumes, shoes, tiaras, wigs, some play makeup. This would make any little 6-7 year old girl happy, think of the hours of fun she can have playing dress-up with her friends.

3.Barbie's, this is something that every girl will love. Barbie's are a safe bet for girls age 6-7, along with any other age. Most little girls will love dressing and playing pretend with Barbie and all her friends, there are so many accessories you can get, they have Barbie houses, cars, pets, along with many more, walk into any toy store and there will be two or three rows full of Barbie related toys. A big seller this year for Barbie will be Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses, as well as all the princesses from the movie, They also have the dancing princess horse carriage.

4.Leapster, if you are looking for an educational gift for your 6-7 year old girl a Leapster might be an idea. Leapster teaches by play which is something big for kids, it will keep their attention while teaching math, and spelling. They have all types of learning games, read along stories, and ones to help teach how to write. There are all your child's favorite characters to choose from. This would be a great gift, it will look like a game but they will be learning. What more could a parent want from a gift.

5.Board games, this is a great gift to get the whole family involved, there are so many games both educational and fun. Some ones I would suggest are Candy land, Chutes and Ladders; High Ho Cherry-o, Monopoly Jr., or any of the other great games available. These games can provide your 6-7 year old girl with a great learning experience or just a great afternoon or evening of family time fun.

6.Lego's and building blocks, while you might be thinking these are for boys, Girls love to play with them just as well, Lego's lets children use their imagination and build whatever they want to, They have so many different set of Lego's, I'm sure there will be one just right for your child. I remember spending hours at a time playing with them.

7.Bratz, and anything related is sure to be a hit with your 6-7 year old girl, these dolls are flying off the shelves, and just like Barbie's they have a ton of accessories to go with them. They now have Brats babies that are about the size of Cabbage Patch kids, I know my daughter is begging me for one and she is 6.So I would guess it will be a big hit for this years shopping list.

8.Baby Alive, I can see this being a huge hit with the six to seven year old girls, it's very life like in that it really eats baby food that they can mix up, then it uses the bathroom in its diaper. This doll is great for girls who like to play mommy, she comes with food, diapers, bottle with nipple and cap, bowl, spoon, and bib.

You can buy extra accessories to go along with her. Baby Alive laughs, burps, hiccups, and interacts with phrases and songs.

9.Gift cards, These can make great stocking stuffers, you can get them a gift card for the book store so they can pick out their own classics, or to the music store where they can pick out their favorite CD.

These are just a few suggestions for your Christmas shopping list, just remember to not be suckered in with all the advertising and marketing the toy companies will do this holiday season. Keep in mind they are trying to sell you their product and they don't really care if your child will actually play with it after Christmas is over. I know we have spent hundreds of dollars on the must have toys, only to find them in the bottom of the toy box never played with. This year I will be sticking with things I know she will use time and time again.

  • Remember to ask yourself if your child will play with the gift once the holidays are over.
  • Try to find gifts that can be both educational and fun at the same time.
  • Often times simple gifts are better then the most expensive or popular ones.
Every second, three Barbie dolls are sold somewhere in the world. The work "LEGO" is formed from the Danish words "leg godt" which means "play well." The average child in the United States will wear down 730 crayons by his/her Th birthday.

I agree with most of what you are saying, except for the Bratz dolls. You tell people not to buy into the marketing hype, then suggest they do exactly that by buying their impressionable little 6-7yr old these over hyped, over sexualized, stereotypical dolls. Parents, please, make sure that you look into ANY gifts for your kids before buying them, but for sure check into the Bratz dolls. I for one will not allow my daughter to have one. They glamourize the "go to the mall and check out new make-up and boys" stereotype of the dumb girl who needs to look pretty in mini skirts and eyeshadow to get the boys. These dolls may be fine for a 16 year old, but I would definately caution you on buying one for a 6-7yr old.
