Holiday Gift Ideas for Teachers

Heather Shockney
Everyday your child goes off to school and they are in the hands of their teacher for several hours ,why not show their teacher how important they are this Christmas. Here are some gift suggestions to include in your holiday shopping list. Gifts don't have to be expensive to show how much someone means to you, it's the thought that goes into the present.

1.Homemade, Several teachers I know have said they enjoy a homemade present a lot more then one that was bought, because it shows that the child has taken the time out of his or her day to do something special. Your child could make a homemade Christmas ornament for their teachers tree, or how about a birdhouse, or wind chime, there are several different crafts kits found at any craft store or even Wal-Mart. If you don't have a lot of extra money to spend how about the child make a Christmas card and include some homemade cookies. Or have the child write a poem or letter. The parent can write a thank you letter letting the teacher know how good of a job they are doing teaching their child.

2.Gift certificate to the local spa for a massage, or for a manicure, something to make them feel good and relax over the Christmas vacation.

3.Gift cards, maybe a gift card to go out to eat, or go to the movies, maybe one to a bookstore in the area.

4. Gift basket, You could be really creative using a gift basket, make one up of bath items such as bubble bath, lotion, shower gel, maybe some candles in the same scent as the bubble bath. Or maybe one filled with homemade cookies and you could add some hot cocoa mix, some mini marshmallows, a nice mug, and maybe a Christmas Cd, so they can sit down and relax for a bit during the hectic Christmas holiday. There are many different ideas you could use in making the basket. You could do a coffee themed one or how about a chocolate inspired basket. You could do a movie night basket using a big popcorn tub and fill it with microwave popcorn, candy, soda, and a movie rental coupon from the local video store

5.Personalized gifts, These can be a variety of different things from a t-shirt or sweatshirt with your teachers name and a nice saying Worlds greatest teacher or number one teacher something that shows how much you appreciate them. You can find totes in several different styles and prices to fit your budget. This would be a great gift for a teacher, they have a lot to take home at night and need a way to carry it .You could get a personalized pencil holder, or desk plate with the teachers name on it.

6.A Picture frame with the entire class photo, Usually when they do school pictures they take a class picture, or see if it can be arranged to take one of your own without the teacher knowing. You can find the picture frames that can record messages; you could have the whole class say something.

7. Candles, They come in so many different scents and styles you are sure to find one that is perfect for your teacher, Maybe one scented like homemade cookies, pumpkin pie, or candy canes.

8. Charity donation in the teacher's name. Make a donation to a charity; you might be able to find out one of their favorites from some of the other teachers.

9.School supplies, Lots of teachers these days have to buy supplies for their class so this could be a great way to cut their expense, fill up a box with pencils and paper, folders, glue sticks, rulers and anything else you know they use in class.

10. Make a class scrapbook, include a page with a photo of the child for each student in the class, have them write a message or poem, something to let their teacher know they appreciate the hard work the teacher does for them.

Whatever gift you choose it doesn't have to cost a lot, it's the thought that counts. The teacher wants to know they are doing their job and your child is learning .A simple thank-you can mean everything to them.

  • The thought is what counts when selecting a gift for your child's teacher.
  • You can get gift cards to their favorite store,or to see a movie.
  • Gift baskets can be done in many themes.
Most teachers would rather have a homemade gift then a store bought one.
