Holiday Gifts for Teachers: Inexpensive, Creative Gifts

Rachael Taylor
The Holidays are fast approaching and we are all rushing to meet the December 25th gift purchasing deadline, the list seems to grow larger everyday. does your list include your child/children's teacher? Well my list includes three teachers this year and I have been racking my brain trying to come up with the perfect inexpensive gift for each of them. I think I have narrowed the field down and want to share my decisions with all of you, hopefully you will see an idea that will help in your own quests for that teacher on your list this Holiday season.

Teacher Gifts for Under $10

Personalized Homemade Certificate/Award

Give your child a piece of 8X10 paper that has the center cut out to artistically express what their teacher means to them. On the piece that you cut out, have your child write in a few lines that include what the award is for e.g. #1 Teacher, Best Teacher in the World, Most Fun Teacher etc. Make sure to include the teachers name, the subject or grade they teach, the year and the name of the school. Purchase an inexpensive frame (good place to look is the Dollar Stores or Wal-Mart) to put the award in. Wrap it with tissue paper that your child has decorated for a more festive look and feel. If you have a picture of your child and the teacher together include it on the certificate, the teacher will enjoy this for years.

Gift Baskets

Purchase small to medium sized baskets from your local craft stores like Michaels, Joann's or Hobby Lobby and fill them with a variety of teacher staples. Apples, tissue's, crayons, glue-sticks, ½ pound bags of coffee beans(suitable if you know the teacher drinks coffee), stickers, pencils etc. there is no limit to the potential of gifts that can be included in the baskets and you can tailor each basket to the teachers likes and dislikes.

Gift Cards

Although they are not particularly a personalized gift, a gift card can be beneficial if you are not very familiar with your child's teacher or their habits and likes. A Dunkin Donut card, gas card, office supplies store, the local teacher supply store and craft store cards are all great places to consider when looking for gift cards for teachers.

Store bought Plagues and Statues

These gifts are often very inexpensive and readily available at most of the places you already shop. Some are completely generic and others are cute and can be personalized by your child. Look for the Holiday themed plagues and statues, maybe a small Christmas print pillow or hand towels.

Personalized Christmas Ornaments

Purchase undecorated ornaments that you can color, glitter, stencil and spiffy up easily. Keep in mind that your child will be handling them so look for plastic or fabric ornaments for safety reasons. Once again put the teachers name, the subject or grade they teach, the year and the school name on the ornament along with your child's name and a personal note to the teacher for the Holiday season.

Well that's a start, I am sure you can think of so many more ways to surprise your child's teacher this Holiday with the perfect gift from your child.
