Many families and friends choose to forgo the traditional way of exchanging gifts at the holidays. Instead of searching for that perfect gift for each person, generic gifts are purchased and then one is randomly selected by each participant. Not only does this save a ton of money, it also drastically cuts down on shopping time. A price limit is usually put in place to prevent one person from going home with a diamond watch, while another person gets a pig shaped oven timer. Here are some great holiday grab bag gifts you can purchase for twenty dollars or less.

Discounted DVD Movie Collections. While you may not be able to purchase the newest releases of a certain genre or actor, the bargain bins of discount department stores often carry movies for five dollars. Select a few that have the same theme or feature the same actor or actress. If you know some of the favorites of one or two of the people participating in the holiday grab bag, you can gear your chooses toward those and hope that person is the recipient.

Cosmetic Bag Filled to the Brim. Dollarstores carry a selection of makeup from popular brands and more obscure ones. Select a pretty makeup bag that has a clear window and fill it to the brim with eye shadows, lipsticks and blushes. If a man happens to get this gift in the grab bag, he can do a little trade on the side with someone else or share it with his wife or daughter.

Glass Candle holders with Holiday Candles. Everyone can use more candles and candle holders during the holidays. Dollar stores, drugstores and grocery stores carry a wide variety of clear glass holders and boxes of seasonally scented tea lights or votive candles. If you shop carefully and compare prices, you will surely be able to get quite a bit for your money.

Small Kitchen Appliances. While you may not be able to purchase a juicing machine or a convection oven for twenty dollars, you can surely buy a sandwich maker, crock pot, waffle or iced tea maker for this amount of money. Often, these are kitchen items that one wouldn't purchase for themselves, but find they come in very handy once they are in the home.

Christmas Stocking Filled with Ornaments. A holiday stocking can be purchased for a dollar and then filled with a variety of tree ornaments. The closer you get to the holiday, the more these items are marked down. Some real bargains can be found a few days before Christmas, so put off shopping for this grab bag item as long as possible. You can choose a theme for the gift such as winter birds, snowmen, or only red or white holiday balls or ornaments. Everyone can use a few new decorations for the tree every year, so this is one gift that will surely be put to good use for many years to come.
