Holiday Hustle

April Higney
The inviting flavor senses the cinnamon apple baked pie,
blending with the cooked foods prepared for Thanksgiving day.
Enjoyment at the table, laughters and memories,
yet again on Christmas day.
When the New Year comes,
much the same to celebrate,
and as the ball drops and fireworks color the sky,
couples kiss in wine glasses and cheer, resolutions a common debate.
Seems these holidays cling closely together in time,
as each await the specials within the stores, a long line.
A frenzy to buy a certain gift, some pushing along in greed.
Just doing what I can to bring a smile, isn't that just fine?
The news plays of trampled patrons, customers in a hustle,
a sad view of a season that should be of loves.
Black Friday a Blue Tuesday,
when one may be comforted just as much with a warm pair of gloves.
I look upon the many faces, family smiles, lacking material graces,
and happiness still fills their souls, just the same as mine.
We'll enjoy each portion of each holiday,
never once waiting upon love within a store's long line.

I'd rather have a smile and a hug and know I saved someone a frustrating wait in one of those lines. You've got it right! :)
