For festive light and holiday displays around Durham, NC, check out these three family- and kid-friendly events.

Light Up Durham at the American Tobacco Campus

Light Up Durham is holding its annual holiday display kickoff of the so-called "brightest lights in town" on November 30th, 2007 at 7pm.

The Lucky Strike Water Tower, located on the American Tobacco Campus at 318 Blackwell Street, will light up for the 2007 holiday season on that night. Visitors will hear cheery tunes from live performers such as area school choirs during the ceremony, and the first 500 guests will be given a free souvenir light wand!

Many families around Durham call this event sort of a tradition and look forward to it year after year. Not only is the Tower being lit, but on the following day, area school song, dance, and band ensembles will perform for Talent All Over Town. Be sure to save the date and join the community for this wonderful celebration that will certainly brighten your heart and spirits this holiday season.

Christmas by Candlelight at Duke Homestead
2828 Duke Homestead Rd.

On both December 7th and 14th from 7pm until 9pm, come out to Duke Homestead for the free event "Christmas by Candlelight".

Duke Homestead is tobacco patriarch Washington Duke's historic home and farmland. On these two nights in December, visitors will experience and celebrate an 1870 Christmas tour of the homestead. Some of the features are decorations typical of the 1870s, caroling, and hot apple cider. The tour will be by candlelight.

Santa Train at the NC Museum of Life and Science
433 Murray Ave.
Dates: 12/7/07 - 12/9/07, 12/13/07 - 12/16/07, & 12/20/07 - 12/22/07

This annual holiday tradition hosted by the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science is in its 29th year this holiday season!

The Museum grounds are once again turned into a magical holiday land that kids will definitely enjoy! Each night, Santa Train, outfitted in lots of colorful lights, will make its way along decorated wooded trails which wind around the Ellerbee Creek up to the North Pole. There, Santa, Rudolph, and the elves meet the kids for an unforgettable night.

This Museum event is a lot of fun for kids and families. This year Santa Train will run on ten nights in December, so make sure to reserve one of those nights for you and your family. Tickets will go on sale for Santa Train on November 12th. Last year the train departed from the Museum station every 20 minutes beginning at 5:40pm and the last one at 8:20pm and the tickets were $9.25 per person.
