Atlas Park Mall, a recently erected building in Queens, will host a tree lighting that begins on November 11th. The only catch is that instead of a tree the mall will be lighting a giant bear. Other features will include songs and performances by The Starlites, Eddie and Aaron Neville. The holiday-long celebrations will begin at 3 p.m. on November 11th at 8000 Cooper Ave in Glendale.
At Queens Center Mall a Magical Tree Lighting Ceremony will be taking place on November 27th at 8pm. Like the previously mentioned lighting, admission is free for all to enjoy. All the holiday pleasantries can be found at Queens Center mall fit with songs, a Santa and other season oriented activities for kids and adults. Visit the Flushing Library at 41-47 Main St. to catch the event.
Another lights event will be held at Jackson Heights featuring a variety of holiday decoration merged between Jewish and Christian traditions. The event will likely feature the essential to any holiday get together, but dates and times have yet to be announced. For more information visit them at their address. The event will be held at Jackson Heights Post Office, 78-02 37th Ave.
Also in Queens, the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council will be hosting the most massive menorah in the area. This yearly event entitled 'Light up the Night' will provide for traditional and fun Jewish celebration. Queens.about.com provides some good information by John Roleke. He writes:
"The annual "Light Up The Night - A Spectacular Hanukkah Celebration" features live music, dancing, latkes and sufganiyot, and dreidels, chocolate Hannukah gelt, and special entertainment for the kids."
Finally the biggest menorah in the Burroughs will be lit on December 17 at 5:30 PM at the Chabad of Eastern Queens. The address is 211-05 Union Tpke, Hollis Hills. This event cannot be missed and will likely leave a lasting impression on your a family for years to come. You may see Christmas trees all over the country being lit in public places, but rarely do you get to see a larger than life menorah.
A good holiday experience in Queens, NY is literally just around the corner and since Jewish and Christian holidays are often shared in New York, the holiday season encompasses a long span of time from November through January.
