Washington D.C. hosts a plethora of holiday celebrations every year, not to mention the numerous holiday light displays throughout the city. Nearly every church, business and organization seems to come together to provide Washington D.C. and nearby Virginia with impressive seasonal events. And why not, Washington D.C. marks a point in history, not just a plot on a map. This city represents the epicenter of American patriotism and holiday celebration. Holiday Light displays are abundant in this historic city with dozens of places to visit throughout the holidays.

The Alexandria Boat Parade will be held on December 1st and 2nd this year. The impressive boats will float on down the Potomac river and into Alexandria's waterfront, and once there, they will continue into Washington harbor for onlookers to enjoy. The celebrations go on through the weekend providing an offbeat and fun event for the holidays. The Alexandria Boat Parade will provide for some interesting memories.

New in Washington D.C. is holiday ZooLights featured at Rock Creek Park. ZooLights will be held over the Christmas holiday on Sundays and Wednesdays from 6 to 8:30 PM. The National Zoo is going to put on a holiday oriented exhibition featuring moving lights, ice sculptures and even storytelling. Admission for the night will be around $10 dollars, and includes parking accommodations.

Gaithersburg holds it's own festival of the lights from November, 23 through Dec, 30th. Drive a course over 3 miles long displaying 350 light displays along the way. Parking is $10 and $12 dollars over Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The festival is Located at 11950 Clopper Road, right through Seneca park.

From now until the new year you can check out the Garden of Lights at Brookside Gardens located at 1800 Glenallen Avenue in Wheaton. The Garden is only accessible on foot, but it provides for a much more personal and inspiring experience. Watch the lights take the form of different creatures. This is another beautiful holiday event that can be enjoyed by any age group. Admission is $15 per car.

Finally, the Symphony of Lights in Columbia is certain to offer a good destination. Like the festival of lights at Seneca park, you'll be driving the whole time through over 75 light setups featuring both moving and non moving displays. Admission will be $15 per car and held during the weekends over the holiday. More specific dates and times have yet to be announced, but while you're waiting, go visit a couple dozen other festivals being offered in and around the Washington D.C. area.
