Holiday Meals and Meeting Your Partner's Parents

We have all seen the terrible things that can happen on movies such as Meet the Parents. Meeting your girlfriend or boyfriend's parents can be a very nerve racking experience. Things can go really well or really bad upon first impressions. Of course, you are looking for a great first impression when you meet the parents of a girlfriends or boyfriend for the first time.

Holidays are notorious for meeting the parents of a boyfriend or girlfriend. Many want to show off their new mate to the family during family holiday meals and gathering. However, these can make things even more nerve racking because the entire family is often there. You may be meeting aunts, uncles, and grandparents along with the parents.

There are some things that you can do to make your holiday meal and meeting to go as smoothly as possible. Try out some of the tips listed below. While you will have to 'feel out' the situation and adjust accordingly, the tips are sure to help at least a little.

Be conservative. While you should be yourself, do not wear your sexiest or most daring outfit. Look as respectable as possible without sacrificing your personality. After you get to know the parents a little better, you can start easing into your weekend clothes.

Do not overdo the affection. While you should act like you care about your partner, parents do not wan tot see you all over their son or daughter. Small touches or looks of affection will do you much better than all out tongue kisses and rump grabs in front of the family.

Go slow on the opinions. If you are asked what you think or how you feel, state your opinion. However, do not freely go against the thoughts or beliefs of your mate's parents. For example, if you know that the father is a headstrong Democratic and you are a Republican, then by all means refrain from political talk.

Before going for the visit, find out exactly what your mate has told his/her parents. You do not want to share the secret that the two of you are living together if he/she has not told the parents. Also check on any other personal matters that may slip out. For example, if you mate has dropped out of school or quit a job.

Meeting your partner's parents for the firs time can be very exciting. Make sure that you make it the best experience possible.
