Find Cash for the Holidays and Beyond

Donna Porter
The holidays are here and you find yourself deficient in holiday capital, where did your good intentions go? Whether it's poor holiday money management skills or hard times, you share plentiful company. Yet time remains to generate money for the holiday gifts you desire.

Conversely, beware that several holiday money scams exist and other means border on criminal. Following are some favorite online holiday money resources:
Holiday Money on Craigslist and Beyond
Selling unwanted goods provides an effective way to get holiday money and live greener. Keys to holiday money success include in-demand products, useful product description and competitive pricing. Additionally, product photos attract more sales.

A frequent seller mistake is overpricing. This at a time when holiday money is equally important to buyers. Find similar items on sale for best pricing results.

If Craigslist lacks buyers for your holiday money fare, try local buyer networks such as found in Yahoo Groups. Search by city and include keywords such as "For Sale" or "buyer." (See: http://groups.yahoo.com/)

Pros/Cons: Online sales provide a plausible way to get holiday money, but be prepared for low offers. Practice good safety measures concerning your private data, phone and address, and if possible meet with buyers publicly or with a friend.

EBay and Online Auctions for Holiday Money
Individuals accustomed to online actions enjoy the holiday money potential. And, eBay is not the only auction to consider, local and niche auctions may provide better results.

For the unexperienced, the holiday season is not the optimal time for eBay indoctrination. Two smart alternatives exist: Develop your auction experience in the off season and become better equipped to make holiday money the next round.

Otherwise, for fast holiday cash, find a re-seller for your product. Often commissions can be hefty, but reputable auction re-sellers make a viable alternative for some quick holiday money.

Pros/Cons: Products galore move during the holidays, from homemade items to vintage jewelry. Competition is fierce, though this promotes reduced seller fees as well. Experienced sellers tend to fare better with auctions as a holiday money source.

Holiday Money, Can You Make Money Online?
Money scams clog the Internet and drain the pockets of the desperate, but bona fide ways to make holiday money exist. Some holiday money is earned through paid work, both skilled and unskilled, while other is made through the likes of reviewing ads and taking surveys. The latter is not wrong, but it is more difficult to find dependable holiday revenue sources this way.

Also known as Get Paid To (GPT) sites, these are best implemented several weeks before the holidays, depending on payout schedules. Last minute holiday money is possible but it requires decent research. (See AC Producer Tori for a GPT compendium).

Otherwise consider independent contracting, freelancing and telecommuting jobs online. Some variably good resources include Craigslist.org , Indeed.com, WAHM.com, and WorldWideWorkatHome.com, or select job web sites dedicated to your professional skills.

Pros/Cons: Holiday money opportunities span the Internet but earnings vary widely. Check the fine print on GPT sites and Google site names with the keyword "scam" or "complaint." With few exceptions, legitimate GPT and make money opportunities should be free. Ensure earnings quotas for payouts are reasonable, some sites require minimum earnings of $75 or more.

Payday Loans - Holiday Money to Avoid
Payday loans attract many a desperate holiday shopper. Considering the interest rate alone should give one pause for thought. "Do I really need this gift now?" A broke and busted January can make one ill, and payday loans and credit card debt are the key pathogens.

Last Words on Holiday Money
As adults, we know that holidays are not simply about gifts. Homemade gifts are popular and it's no longer uncool to give a gift from the heart. But in the real world, holidays can be tough, holiday money tight, and we like to make our loved ones happy. Sometimes, however, we overestimate what is required to do so.

If you really want that iPod or Xbox for Christmas or a diamond trinket for your beau, that is okay too. Just remember that holiday money is best used in a joyous fashion without buyers remorse. I commented on this before, but saw it once again, and was interested in the GPT sites. Great work Donna, and I love the picture of the money in the can. So clever!

Very good information. I joined one view email and take survey place to help my neice out. I work on it about 30 minutes a night. They don't pay out until you get $30. Amazingly, I've had no $1 or .50 surveys for weeks. Every since I hit $29 I have gotten two emails a day (2cents each) and just want to get the darn thing done so she gets referral credit.

My favorite part was the close. If everyone could pull back on the need to spend spend spend during the holidays, it would be a much better world.
