If you love Christmas lights, you've got lots of opportunities in Fort Myers, Florida besides just randomly driving around hoping to spot some good displays. Throw in some historic houses and even butterflies, and you have the holiday houses lighting the nights that you've dreamed about! There are three displays in particular that show off Christmas lights and much more to their best advantage. You can visit the Edison & Ford Winter Estates Holiday Nights, the Downtown Fort Myers Holiday House 2010, or the Butterfly Estates Holiday Dreams 2010.

The Edison & Ford Winter Estates Holiday Nights

The Edison & Ford Winter Estates Holiday Nights is an annual tradition now enjoying its 35th year. Considering that Thomas Edison invented the Christmas light, it is only fitting that dozens of trees are decorated throughout the historic estates, along with fences, gardens and buildings in traditional period decor. Many of Ford's and Edison's inventions will be highlighted, and you can view special exhibits in the museum to the backdrop of musical presentations by local school groups.

This event runs through January 1, 2011, although it will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Guided tours will be offered at 6:30 and 7:30 for those who enjoy walking; or, for an additional fee, you can take a horse-drawn wagon ride that also encompasses the nearby historic neighborhood of Edison Park.

Admission to Holiday Nights at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates is $15 for adults, $5 for students with an I.D., and $1 for children ages 6 - 12, for self-guided tours. Guided tours are $20 for adults and $11 for children 6 - 12. Wagon rides cost an additional $8 for adults and $5 for children.

Downtown Fort Myers Holiday House 2010

For a less expensive opportunity to view Christmas lights combined with historic homes, The Fort Myers Woman's Community Club is decorating The Burroughs Home and the Langford-Kingston Home for only $5 per adult with children 12 and under free. Go to the corner of Fowler and First Street in Downtown Fort Myers from 5 - 9 pm from now through December 23, 2010 and you can see Christmas Through the Eyes of a Child. Besides viewing these two beautiful homes, you can visit with Santa while listening to holiday music.

Holiday Dreams 2010

And at for no cost at all, enjoy the 2nd annual display of lights and trees at The Butterfly Estates, located at 1815 Fowler Street, Downtown Fort Myers, FL now through December 31 from 9 am - 9 pm. The lovely Butterfly Estates features a large, glass Butterfly Conservatory with thousands of butterflies living in an environment lush with waterfalls and tropical nectar plants. Although the eco-attraction is open 365 days a year, it is only decorated for Christmas until December 31st, so be sure to visit soon.

With so many lovely choices to view Christmas lights while enjoying historic homes and beautiful butterflies, make sure you take some time away this Holiday Season to enjoy the beauty of Christmas lights in lavish displays when you come to Fort Myers, Florida for Christmas.
