Holiday Party Dresses Under $50

Jillian McCoy
Got parties to attend this season, but dread getting dressed? The high price of special occasion clothing is enough to make anyone wince. Your wallet's already taking enough of a beating in paying for holiday gifts, so why not find a dress that fits your budget? These holiday party dresses are under $50 each, giving you a dressed up look for a casual price tag.

Mossimo Sheath Dress - Target, $10.48

The little black dress is a staple for special occasions like holiday parties. Make yours basic with this Mossimo mini from Target. Featuring nothing more than a squared neck and small rear skirt slit, this LBD is poised for piling on the accessories. It can easily transition from desk to drinks with just a little jewelry or the right pair of shoes. Even if you don't have any parties on your calendar, this is one worth picking up for a rainy day. At less than $11, can you really go wrong?

Cabernet Cabaret Dress - ModCloth, $49.99

Cocktails, anyone? One part holiday, one part disco, this maroon dress isn't for the faint of heart. What it is for is a cocktail party or New Year's Eve. The one-shoulder design adds a daring Grecian goddess vibe, but the black satin bow details pull the dress back with a hint of sweetness. Try this with patterned wool or fishnet tights and ankle booties, or bare-legged with sandals if it's warm enough where you are. Finish the look with a small shoulder bag or pick up an oversized clutch - bonus points for bow details.

Merona Collection Rochelle Burnout Dress - Target, $39.99

If simple's your style, it doesn't get any better than this LBD. Slip it on, zip it up, and you're ready to go - no accessories necessary. The lacy burnout detail adds enough interest to make your dress a statement all its own. With a reasonable above-the-knee length and a t-shirt style neckline, this is one you'll reach for again and again. Try this dress if you're hosting your own holiday festivities - forget the poufy gowns and go for comfort if you'll be running back and forth from the kitchen all night.

Elementz Three Quarter Sleeve Velvet Dress - Macy's, $44.99

Look holiday pretty this season in soft red velvet. Crossover detailing adds interest across the torso, while the silhouette stays slim. Another simple go-to dress, this slips on overhead - just a few tugs and you're dressed. The open neckline and exposed wrists hint toward delicate jewelry; try a dress watch and a short basic necklace. Since the bright red color and plush velvet fabric are both bound to grab attention, keep your shoes and accessories on the simple side.

RB Collection Foil Floral Print Cap Sleeve Dress - Kmart, $29.99

Send heads spinning with this office-friendly yet party-perfect dress. The silhouette is all business, with a modest neck, slim belted waist and decorative front seams. The design shines for after-hours affairs, with a foil print that's part floral, part animal print. Though these styles should otherwise clash, they mesh together here beautifully, while still coming in a reasonably-priced package. The cap sleeves are barely there, making this dress a great choice if you've got slim or toned upper arms. If not, grab a sweater or shrug and you'll still look great.

With all the inexpensive party dresses to choose from, looking great doesn't have to come at great expense. By choosing a holiday party dress for $50 or less, you'll have plenty of cash left over to add to your gift fund.

Great information. Not everyone has the money to blow hundreds of $$$ on a party dress.
