Holiday Party Fashion Tips

Tis the season for holiday parties and, therefore, for the holiday party fashion dilemma. Follow these holiday party fashion tips and you are sure to look just right all season long.

1. Dress appropriately. If you are uncertain what other guests will be wearing to a holiday party, ask the host ahead of time. And remember, an office party or family get together are not the right venues for a super-sexy outfit with a plunging neckline.

2. Don't overdress. Simple and elegant is almost always appropriate. It is easier to dress up an outfit that is understated than to dress down one that shouts "look at me" to everyone who sees it. Also, if you want to try out the latest, far-out fashion trend, be sure that it is meant for someone of your age and figure. One great holiday party fashion look for almost celebration is a simple outfit (like the proverbial little black dress) dressed up with a few dynamite accessories. Let a beaded handbag, a beautiful scarf, a sparkling jeweled necklace or elegant pearls, or eye-catching earrings take center stage and you are sure to be a hit.

3. Don't over accessorize. While the right accessories can take an outfit from ordinary to wonderful, wearing too many clashing accessories at once can take it from wonderful to cluttered. Even though it is the holiday season, there is no reason to adorn yourself like a Christmas tree.

4. Dress comfortably. Of course you want to look fabulous, but don't sacrifice comfort for style. It is hard to enjoy the festivities if your dress is too tight, you are getting a blister on your heel, or you are showing so much skin that you have to huddle by the fireplace all evening to stay warm.

5. Before leaving home, check out how you look in a full length mirror, both front and back to be sure that nothing is riding up, hanging out, or showing when it shouldn't be.

6. Skip the holiday-themed apparel. Save the apparel decorated with reindeers, Santas, Christmas trees and candy canes for other occasions. If you can't resist this look, limit yourself to a tasteful holiday broach.

7. Today's lingerie can do wonders by creating sleek lines and smoothing out bulges, so be sure to choose the right undergarments to enhance your look.

8. For a more elegant holiday party fashion look, select rich colors like deep reds and burgundies, forest greens, jewel-like plums and purples, and peacock blues and skip the bright reds and greens.

9. Along with a comb and lipstick, carry a few item for emergency fashion repairs in your clutch, including safety pins, a little bit of double-sided tape (for falling hems), and a couple of wipes to dab up spills).
