Holiday Party Themes: 'A Christmas Story'

One of the most beloved holiday films is "A Christmas Story" from 1983. Revolving around Ralphie and his desire for a Red Ryder BB gun under the Christmas tree and his family's holiday misadventures, this film is the perfect theme for a holiday party.

"A Christmas Story" holiday party invitations

If you have access to an invitation template, create your own party invitations that look like a school theme paper. For the cover, type a brief story about your desire for a Red Ryder BB gun. Once the invitations are printed, use a red marker to write a "C+" on the cover and a small note that says "You'll shoot your eye out!"

The Parker family lost their turkey to the neighbor's dogs and ended up eating Christmas dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Whether your holiday party is a casual cocktail and appetizer affair or a more formal sit-down event, a menu of Chinese food is perfect.

I'm a huge fan of hot chocolate laced with brandy or liqueur. Follow the theme of "A Christmas Story" and make a Crock-pot full of hot Ovaltine. Great accompaniments include Grand Marnier, Bailey's Irish Cream and Kahlua coffee liqueur.

If you'd like to truly get into the spirit of "A Christmas Story", you can buy an authentic Major Award Leg Lamp from the Christmas Story House Gift Shop in Cleveland, Ohio. Regularly priced at $249.99, the leg lamp and shade come in a cardboard box marked "FRAGILE". For an additional $239, you can buy a wooden crate for the shipping (and off-season storage).

Using green pipe cleaners, create a small Christmas tree as a centerpiece. This is in reference to the scene in which The Old Man gives his impression of artificial trees. Place several bars of Lifebuoy soap under the tree as the Christmas presents.

Pay tribute to a great classic with "A Christmas Story" holiday party. Be sure to check all BB guns at the door so no one will shoot their eye out.
