Being pulled along a snowy road in a horse-drawn sleigh is just the ticket this holiday season. Let one of these farms and sleigh ride providers create a magical winter wonderland paradise for you and your family this December and beyond.

Sleigh ride farm : rides day and night

The Adams Farm has been giving mid-December through March sleigh rides for three decades. The Vermont farm offers guests a day or nighttime sleigh ride, replete with Belgian draft horses and a log cabin warm up halfway through the journey. Open Tuesdays through Sundays, weather permitting.

Hot chocolate and tunes on the piano provide the needed respite from the cold outside before guests take off for another scenic trip back down the mountain in the sleigh. You can even sit down for a game of checkers as you sip on the warm hot cocoa provided and enjoy the snow falling outside.

Warm blankets for the ride to and fro are provided at no extra cost for the day or evening sleigh ride chosen, and the entire trip will run a little less than two hours. Cost is $20 for each adult; $10 for children aged 4 to 12 and those under aged four rides for free.

Romantic sleigh rides, holiday sleigh rides and private sleigh rides are all available for a slightly higher fee at Adams Farm, but you will need to make a reservation and it must be done via phone or in-person (no email reservations).

Dinner, entertainment and a chuck wagon sleigh ride

Frisco, Colorado's "Two Below Zero" family-owned business lets you slide into a holiday attitude as you go back into time over dinner at a base camp, or take in the slopes and mountain views from the safety of a mule-drawn sleigh.

If you opt for the dinner/sleigh ride combination you won't be in a typical sleigh carriage, as this one is designed to sit groups of approximately ten in one outing.

Dinner is your destination, and it is a camp reminiscent of olden times when the dinner bell was a hand-held black iron triangular object accompanied by "Yee-haw" from cowpokes.

You can see a video of the short one-mile ride at Two Below Zero. Cost for the ride and dinner during the peak time of year (starting Dec. 20th) is $89 for adults; $60 aged 4 to 12 and free for aged three and under. Deduct $5 for non-peak times.

Sleigh rides: a private affair
If romance is in the air or you just prefer it to be a private affair on the snowy sleigh ride, you can find that at Two Below Zero, Adams Farm or Aspen Carriage, where an open, plush horse-drawn carriage will run you approximately $275 for a small family or two-to-three adult party.

Aspen Carriage might be the more costly option, but you will definitely get your money's worth and enjoy the pomp and circumstance during the hour to hour and a half ride.

Hot chocolate or cider is served beneath large pine trees and jingle bells remind you it isn't all a snowy wonderful dream. Pictures are taken at a bridge during the sleigh ride to ensure your memories last. Reservations are expected, so contact Aspen Carriage to ensure your Colorado sleigh trip plans are secure.
