Dee Dee Smith
The holidays are just around the corner and the excitement is brewing. You see the signs of Christmas in the newspapers, on television and in the stores. The holidays are also a phenomenal time for freelance writers. There are a host of subjects that one can write on pertaining to the holidays, and it's a very promising time for getting hits and visitors to your page or blog. People search the net for ideas on holiday decorations, recipes, travel and much more. Do you want to boost your writing and increase your income for the holidays? Consider writing on one or more of the following topics:

Holiday Crafts - Share patterns/instructions for making Christmas ornaments, wreaths, postcards or gift wrap.

The Holidays & Grief - The holidays can be a very difficult time for many. Interview grief counselors or share personal stories of how others coped and made it through a difficult holiday.

Holiday Cooking/Recipes - Cooks will search the net for everything from how to cook a Christmas goose, to recipes for eggnog. Some article/blog ideas include international recipes, creating holiday menus and recipes for appetizers, drinks and desserts.

Top Ten Holiday Movies - With the kids out of school, many families will be looking for something to do. This includes renting lots and lots of movies. Why not give a plug for some of your favorite holiday movies?

Holiday Party Planning - There are a variety of topics that can be covered under party planning. These include invitations, decorations, entertainment, party venues and hor's doevres.

Holiday Gift Ideas- It can be very difficult to decide what to buy someone for the holidays. As a writer, you can make gift suggestions. You can do this by categorizing your articles, i.e., gifts for her/him, gifts for golf lovers, gifts for geeks, gifts for tweens, etc.

Christmas Skits/Plays - Church groups, schools and community centers put on skits/plays for the Christmas holidays. If you're a creative writer, this is a great time to write our own play and give the public permission to use it. Who knows, this could lead to future writing opportunities.

Holiday Classroom Projects/Activites - If you are a teacher or know teachers, you can write a series of articles on classroom projects and activities for the holidays. Group them into age/grade category. Some ideas include - classroom bulletin boards, art projects, games and writing assignments.

Are you feeling inspired to write? The possibilities for holiday writing are endless. So what are you waiting for? Happy writing.
