Holiday Tech Gift Ideas for the Man in Your Life

Holiday Tech Gifts for Men - Something They Will Appreciate

Pat Bartels
Most men like tech gifts, and there are a lot of holiday tech gifts for men that you can give that they will love. I have found six choices that your guy is going to appreciate. Put a big smile on his face this holiday season with one of these six tech gadgets.

GPS
A GPS is one of the best holiday tech gifts for men. This is an excellent choice if you travel or live in a large metropolitan area. We never travel without one and it saves the person who is elected navigator from making a mistake. Garmin makes a GPS for the car, boat, and the hiker or runner. My husband thinks the GPS is a must have tech device for travel.

You can select a car GPS at different prices depending on the features that you think are important. The Nuvi series has models that have screen sizes at 3.5", 4.3", and 5.0". The Garmin nĂ¼vi 265WT has a 4.3 inch screen, and comes with free lifetime traffic. The traffic feature is a great tool. It does not, however work in all areas. It will work in most metropolitan areas. I was driving through Cincinnati, and it rerouted me around a traffic jam on the interstate. The GPS saved me a lot of time. I purchased mine at Amazon.com. I find many times that Amazon has the cheapest prices. It doesn't hurt, though, to do an internet search to see if you can find it any cheaper. At Amazon this GPS is running about $135. Be sure that you are buying a new GPS and not a refurbished one.

HD Pocket Sized Camcorder
The Creative Vado HD (Third Generation) seems to get a lot of high scores from many sources, and would make an excellent holiday tech gift choice. PC World rated it among the top of its kind. They cited this camera's function in low light, its wide angle capability and it's easy to use settings as excellent. It comes in a variety of colors - black, white, red, blue, and purple. It can be purchased at a cost of between $125 to $135 dollars. It is 3.3 inches long, 7.9 inches wide, 6.3 inches high, and only weighs .7 pounds. It also has USB connectivity. It truly is small enough to fit in a pocket and can easily go anywhere. I know that this is definitely on my husband's holiday wish list.

Netbook computer
This is one item that is on the top of my husband's holiday wish list. I've been looking around for the perfect selection. Some of these computers don't have a keyboard that is suitable for his bigger hands. I have a netbook that I use a lot, and keyboard size is not much of an issue for me. I've been looking around at the different netbooks and found the Toshiba Mini NB305-N440BN 10.1-Inch Netbook. It has 1 GB of Ram, a 250 GB SATA drive, weighs 2.6 pounds, has Wireless-N Wi-Fi networking capabilities, a full size keyboard, Windows 7, an SD memory card reader, with 3 USB ports, VGA video output, 8.3 hours of battery life, and a built in web cam with microphone. I took my husband to Best Buy to try out the keyboard. Every time we go to Best Buy he walks by the Netbooks so it was an easy task to see which one he liked. Best Buy had a good price on it, but I'll still look online to see if I can get a better price. It may even go on sale before the holidays, so I'll keep a watchful eye out. This computer will be around $350 to $370.

Skullcandy Smoking Buds Ink'd Earbuds
I've always liked the Skullcandy brand of headphones and earbuds. These earbuds can be used on your computer and other electronic devices. There are three different silicone inserts so that you can find the perfect size for your comfort. They have great sound at a cost of around $11 at Amazon.

The Desktop Warmer and Cooler
This is a USB powered device that will keep your coffee warm or your soft drink cold. This is at a cost of around $15. Keeps your beverages warm up to 133 degrees, so you cannot use a Styrofoam cup with this device, and it also keeps cold drinks chilled at about 59 degrees. So if your guy likes to keep a drink near his computer this would be a great gift. It could be plugged into a laptop USB port, and would not need an electrical outlet. This is great if you have limited outlets. This can be purchased at either Hammacher Schlemmer or a company called Red Envelope, but it's considerably cheaper at Hammacher Schlemmer.

Livescribe 4GB Pulse Pen
This is a great holiday tech gift for someone who is a student or someone who attends a lot of meetings. This handy little device can be found on Amazon at a cost of $164.99. This item is not only a functioning pen, but it also records your notes and records audio. The amazing thing is that it can replay the corresponding audio for any section of your written notes just by tapping on your notes with the pen. It will also connect to your PC via USB so that you can send your notes and audio to your PC. You can share your notes online with an included free 500MB of storage. The pen weighs 1.3 ounces. This is much easier to carry around than a computer for your meetings. There were 61 reviews on this device 35 gave it 5 stars, 8 four stars, 6 three stars, 6 two stars, and 6 one stars. There are a lot of accessories that you can purchase for the Livescribe.

There is an add on program that will transcribe your notes into text, charging cradle, extra pen cartridges, notebooks, and they also make a 2 and 8GB pen. Besides the pulse pen they also make what is called an Echo Livescribe that is made for use with the MAC

So there you have it, six holiday tech gift choices for men. There are a lot more tech gadgets that you could purchase. The guys in my family would certainly enjoy any of these holiday tech gifts. What holiday gifts you purchase all depends on how much money you have budgeted for your holiday gift giving. I wanted to give you different ideas in different price ranges. All of these ideas can be purchased online. Many times that's where you will find the best prices. Now's the time to think about your holiday gift giving. Shopping early gives you an opportunity for the best deals and choices. Happy holiday shopping!

Good choices, but I wouldn't necessarily pass on a refurbished GPS! Just be sure you are comparing apples and apples when you compare prices!

  • Judy Kaelin11/7/2010

Giving a GPS is a good idea except I would have to teach him how to use it!

Nicely done, Pat. We gave up exchanging gifts between ourselves but we still buy a few things for the family members :) cheers

I am not that much of a technophile. I like getting books, because I love to read, and I like getting clothes because I hate to shop (and am terrible at picking out clothes)
