But many people have one goal for a theme park visit: thrill rides. How do Holiday World & Splashin' Safari's rides stack up? What are the scariest rides at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari?
Holiday World & Splashin' Safari Scary Rides
Cool off in Holiday World's Thanksgiving area with a ride on the world's tallest water ride: Pilgrims Plunge. An open-air elevator will lift your boat 135 feet into the air, and you'll then quickly plunge 131 feet at a 45-degree angle. Be prepared, because you will get wet (you may ride in your swimsuit if you're coming over from Splashin' Safari).
Located in the Fourth of July section of the park, Liberty Launch is a tower ride that raises you up 80 feet into the air for spectacular views of the park before dropping you. You'll experience free-falling sensations on this thrill ride.
3. The Raven
The Raven was voted the nation's #1 wooden roller coaster in 2001, and despite being surpassed in thrills by the newer Legend and the Voyage, it's still a decent thrill ride. During the 90-second ride, located in the Halloween section of the park and named after Poe's haunting poem, you'll travel at 50 mph through a tunnel, two drops, and a sharp turn over Lake Rudolph.
2. The Legend
As the largest wooden roller coaster in Kentucky or Indiana, the Legend's two-minute ride will leave you breathless. It is located in the Halloween section of Holiday World, and its theme of Sleepy Hollow leads you through the woods so that you feel as if you're being chased by the headless horseman. The Legend features three different drops (one being the first spiral drop), a double helix, and a maximum speed of 65 mph.
And my vote for the scariest ride at Holiday World goes to:
1. The Voyage
Voted #1 wooden roller coaster on the planet for 2010, the Voyage lives up to its billing. You'll experience feelings of weightlessness for over 20 seconds on your 1.2 mile ride, which makes the Voyage one of the three longest roller coaster rides in the world. It features one of the steepest drops of any wooden roller coaster, five tunnels, and three sections of 90-degree banking.
