Holidays Arriving - Spend Less Time on Housework with These Tips

Jawna Hoffman
With the holidays arriving everyone tries to get their house in tip-top shape. This doesn't have to take forever. Use these tips and spend less time cleaning and enjoying your company and your holiday.

For your home to look clean you don't have to clean every nook and cranny. You should concentrate on your main visible areas. To help keep you from "deep cleaning" your main areas, do a little touch up to each room every day. Set a certain amount of time that you are going to clean each day for these main areas. Designate 10-15 minutes per day for sweeping and just picking up clutter. A good idea is to have a hand-held vacuum to quick pick up dirt and any dirt you may have on furniture.

A quick way to make a bathroom appear perfectly clean is to focus on mirrors and faucets. I use Clorox wipes to wipe dirty mirrors and faucets on the go. You can also clean the bathtub as you shower. Squirt bodywash on your shower walls, let sit for a few min then scrub walls as you shower.

When cleaning a room always work from top to bottom. If you are washing a wall and start at the bottom, the dirt will drip down on what you already have cleaned. Also to keep from streaking follow your clean path with a dry towel. To keep cobwebs out of your corners use 1 quart vinegar and 2 tsp coconut oil. Spiders don't like this solution so there will be less cobwebs.

When mopping I prefer he Swifter Wetjet. Clorox also makes something similar. When you use a regular mop you are just spreading the dirt by dipping your mop back into the dirty water. Also this leaves less soap scum on your floor and won't leave sticky spots.

We're all used to shoes being kicked off right inside your door. This makes a sightly mess. Try putting a basket or a trunk beside your door to put shoes in. Also it's nice to have a mat in front of your door on the inside for those snowy and rainy days.

A time saver while dusting your home is to put your knickknacks in a sink full of warm soapy water. Let these soak while you are getting your dusting done. By the time you get done, the dust will be soaked off of your knickknacks. You can either towel dry these or put them in your dish drainer to dry while you finish your other work for the day. This saves you from having to dust every knickknack you have. If they are dishwasher safe, run through dishwasher in a mesh bag without any soap.

I hope these tips have helped you speed up your cleaning and I hope you have learned some new ideas and quick tips. If there is something you wonder how to do the quick clean way, do a search on the Internet on cleaning tips. Happy cleaning!
