Why? Because fleas are nasty little creatures that feed on poor skin, blood and dirt particles that are in your pet's fur. Fleas love to create their own filth on the animal's skin and live and breed in it. A dirty dog is a flea buffet and nursery all built onto one!
Holistic Approach to Flea Remedies
Holistic practice is to treat the whole being; rather it is human or animal. Holistic practitioners know that in order to be healthy, one must treat the mind, body and soul. You can quite easily use this approach in treating your pet to ward of fleas.
Healthy pets, with clean shiny coats, don't get nearly as many fleas as a pet that is not properly cared for. One way to insure a healthy coat of fur is with proper nutrition. Feeding your pet a well balanced diet that contains all of the nutritional elements it needs is a good start to a holistically balanced pet.
Think of it in terms of a human eating either a diet of junk food versus a diet of well balanced meals. Which human do you think will be healthier with fewer illnesses? It is the same with our pets. Some people think food is food where animals are concerned. There is a difference, and you should strive to feed your dog the best food you can afford.
Supplements such as brewers yeast and vitamin b will also help your dog fight fleas naturally. According to the book "Herbs for Pets," adding these supplements will adjust the dog's body chemistry to make their skin less appealing to fleas. Some pets may be allergic to things like brewers yeast, so use caution when adding it to their diet.
Exercise is another essential step in keeping your pet holistically balanced. People who exercise regularly are healthier and happier. Your dog will be healthier and happier if they get a daily dose of exercise too. Just taking your pet on a nice brisk walk, or going to a dog park where he or she can run off some energy is enough exercise to balance the holistic health you seek!
Playtime and affection is not only good for the human soul and spirit, it is good for your dog as well. Your pet needs to be shown love and affection on a daily basis to ensure a happy spirit. It doesn't matter if your "together time" consists of playing ball or just cuddling on the couch. Spending quality time with your pet nourishes their spirit!
